I really wanted to like this store. I heard about their price matching, and with them being 1 minute away from where I live the convenience was awesome.
Just the other day I went to Sutherlands to buy about 50 pieces of wood. I needed about 30 pieces of 2x2 lumber. I found it at a price of $1.87 online. One thing I didn't realize is that it was $1.65 at Sutherlands. A customer service rep rung me up at the higher price.
Later I realized that they over charged me so I returned to the store. When confronting one of the customer service reps about the issue this was his response..
"The guy that rung you up said you wanted to price match at $1.87 so he rung you up at that price."I said "So he knew I priced a higher amount and he just went with it?" The not so friendly customer service rep said "yes". I said "I'm a customer right"? And he said yes. I then asked him if this is the way they treat all of their customers. He said no. Then proceeded to refund me the difference without even apologizing.
If Sutherlands had good customer service, they would have initially stopped me in my tracks and saved me money before even leaving the store the first time. I remember seeing this particular Sutherlands worker grinning as I left. Now I know why.
I will never step foot in this place again. If we truly are customers we should be treated like customers. Customer Service is going out of your way to maintain customers so that they return and remain loyal. It was very shady what they did to me. And if they will treat me this way, they will treat you the same. I bet when this particular Customer Service rep made the genius decision to to treat me like this, he didn't realize that us Customers have a voice. And I'll bet that he will regret his actions after reading this and answering to the Sutherlands owners. Reviews last forever, and so do...

Nearly every single board, and even most of the posts, were warped. Several boards have splits or entire edges busted off at an angle. Some of the splits go on for over a foot. I quit taking pictures after seeing how many bad boards there were because I knew I'd already be running short on time.
This made keeping our new deck square almost impossible. It's off by an inch and a quarter on one side due to the stupid things we had to do to make everything straight and square. Some of it isn't perfectly level like I'd prefer either.
Overall just extremely disappointed with the quality of product we received. Will not be returning.
Came for the sale and regretted not getting the more expensive wood. Also, yes, it is dimensional lumber, but to be over 3 inches off from the intended measurement is beyond stupid as well. I can't stand this wood they gave us. Entire 16 foot boards warped. Posts warped.
This added several hours of delays to the project. We went over by a whole week due to the timing being ruined. But we made it work I guess. Somehow.
I had to fill several of these brand new boards in with wood glue and then seal it. So ridiculous. It shouldn't be a gamble whether or not you are getting good or bad wood. Never. You should've sent that BS through a chipper and ordered better wood. Unless its always this embarrassingly bad?
