We have been in the market for a new propane tank for months and finally had the funds to pick one up. I have called multiple times to confirm the pricing - which I have been told each time that its $70 (kinda steep, but since we're in the area we wanted to support this business vs a massive box store). Each time I called I asked if that comes filled and every employee I previously spoke to - including the one I talked to today said "yes".
However, come to find out it does NOT come filled, you also need to pay the $20 to fill it. This now has become a $90 propane tank.
At the register my husband asked to clarify the pricing saying "should be about $70?" and the employee said "yeah" and when he put his card in, the price was $99.
Once he got home, I called again to ask if the $70 tank comes filled - the employee who answered the phone said "yes". I then explained the situation that my husband was just in and was charged a new tank price and a refill and they back tracked saying "yeah yeah, we have to fill it".
I asked if he could come back and return it right now - as this was not the price we were expecting to pay - and I was told no. This was within 10 minutes of purchasing the item.
I advised to the employee on the phone that if they are going to charge $70 for a tank and an additional $20 to fill it that they should communicate that more clearly because it is not received that way on the customer's end.
Overall I am not only disappointed in the fact that this pricing feels shady, but the employees did not state the additional $20 cost to fill it any of the times I spoke to someone. Unfortunately this experience alone has me unwilling to return for any future needs - I'll drive a little further to go...
Read moreI've been a long time customer of Ace Hardware. The staff is always at the front entrance welcoming you in and ready to assist in helping you find what you need. I believe a part of their customer service is bringing your item up to the cash register after asking if there is anything else you need. I've never felt that they were thinking I was going to steal but I've always thought of it as a kind gesture closing the sale. If I feel I need to look around some more that's just what I do and they accept that as well. If I'm working on a project, the sales people are knowledgeable and help me with my questions . Have you been to big box stores? It's extremely difficult getting help and everytime I need just one screw I have to buy a huge box that I'm never going to use! I would also like to add, I met those cute kittens (now cats) and enjoyed visiting them in the store! Thank you for being a long time Mom and Pop shop something we don't see much of anymore and keeping your tradition of exceptional...
Read moreHumiliating experience. Went to buy a tool and asked store help. We went to the section, found the tool and when I reached for it, the staff wouldn’t let go of it. Needed something else, same thing happened. For some reason (I’m black) he didn’t think I was trustworthy or intelligent enough to handle walking my own items to the counter nor was I allowed to inspect them. I was going to let it go until someone shared a similar story with me about them. Apparently Ace is the place with the racist hardware folk.
No thank you, I’m good. Clearly the opinion that day was that I wasn’t deserving of respect and treated as a potential criminal instead of a customer. I feel as though your response Is only to give the appearance of a solved problem. I’ve been using your stores since I was a kid shopping with my dad. The issue of treating me like a person wasn’t an issue until it became a public review. Clearly, for some, it’s an unconscious policy. Not that it matters but you’ve lost a...
