So I've driven past this place a number of times at the Cypress location, but had occasion to stop in and try it for the first time today.
I made the mistake of ordering 2 "small" size pasties - one beef and one chicken. These things are deceptively heavy and jam-packed with fresh ingredients!
They offered gravy as a side option (not for me). The only pasties I've tried (in many places in the world using that same term) were more like turnover-shaped (like the fruit offerings here), while these were big, fat round filled versions. Had I known it would weight what felt like a pound or so (ok, maybe not that heavy, but very substantial), I definitely would've only ordered one.
I was surprised that, although pre-made and ready to go, in the middle of the late afternoon, they were very hot and fresh! The pic attached is of the chicken one - jam packed with fresh potatoes, carrots, and lots of chicken). And piping hot!
For my personal taste, it was quite... bland. VERY filling, and very fresh, but also quite bland. Pasties I've had before (from varying cultures and preparations) have all been a bit more savory and with maybe some "juice" built in, but these, while not really "dry," needed something (IMHO).
They definitely filled the void in my empty stomach, and if I had no other local options, sure, I'd try them again. But... just not interesting enough for me to repurchase.
That being said, everyone working there was quite friendly and efficient. And oh - zero seating inside, this is strictly a take-away location. But it fits nicely in your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been a fan of Pasty Kitchen and visited the original location in Los Alamitos for years. I'm glad this new location opened upāplenty of parking with the same quality, and friendly service.
Every pasty pie tastes homemade and filling. My favorite is the chicken pasty, but I also enjoy beef and specials like the Italian pasty. I always get a large chicken gravy to add extra flavor and moisture to each bite. The beef gravy is also perfect for the beef pasty. I also get small pies, as they are the ideal size for me as a meal.
There are also salads to pair with the pasty pies. I recently got the macaroni salad, and although I prefer a creamier version, this was enjoyable. You can't forget the cookies and dessert pies, which satisfy a sweet tooth. Frozen pies are also occasionally available to warm up throughout the week.
Inside, you can see the staff working hard and a counter display with some goodies, but there aren't any seats inside or outside. The only options are to take out, eat in your car, or relax at a park nearby. I am happy to support this long-standing,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was excited to try this spot, especially since I love this kind of food, but unfortunately, it didnāt quite hit the mark for me. The pastries are very good, but the filling was extremely salty and undercooked, which left me feeling bloated and stuffed afterward. Also, also the gravy was so salty. If you enjoy salty food, you might like it, but if youāre not a fan of that, Iād recommend looking elsewhere. The portions are large and the prices are affordable, which is a plus, but I wasnāt a fan of how it was served. On the bright side, the chicken was tender, and the macaroni salad was actually very good. By the way, itās only available take out only. Overall, itās a hit or miss depending on your taste...
