The drive along the dirt road to where you park to hike to the falls may just be a tad bit intimidating, but exciting nontheless; proceed slowly and carefully. As for the hike from parking to the falls; it's pretty short and fairly easy, though I'm grossly out of shape so it was more moderate for me. At the upper falls where we stopped first, there is an observation deck to view from; however the view and experience is so much better from the pool area below the falls that's the basin for it. You may stand right under the falls to let it shower down on you, and there's a little nook where you can position yourself behind the downpour. I do recommend water shoes because the settlements in the water are a little harsh on the feet. The depth varies from around ankle height to up to well over five feet in some spots. We went near the end of July and the water was very cool and refreshing. My tween/teen girls (my daughter and her friend) totally enjoyed the experience and didn't want to leave. The lower falls cascade was not as heavy as the upper and the pool more shallow but still amazing! Whereas the upper falls design does not provide access to get on the falls itself, the structure of the lower falls did allow it to be accessed up to a certain point My girls along with several other people found an area at the lower part of the falls which they used as a slide to propel them in the pool beneath. Extreme caution is necessary as this could be quite dangerous. Some people do bring their dogs along and get them out into the water. For some people this is a bother and not so much for others. There are no restroom facilities. Hope this helps someone in making their decision whether...

Helton Creek wasnβt in our plans to visit when I was in Blairsville, but when we were at Vogel State Park my GPS suggested this place since it was pretty close and Iβm glad we decided to go! Itβs absolutely beautiful, and itβs super easy to hike.
There is no mobile service once you get deep in the forest, so either have a map ready or screenshot the GPS details just like I did.
The trail is very short, and easy. Once you park, you can immediately hear the waterfall and that says a lot.
The driving trail can be muddy, and you can get stuck easily so consider this before visiting, other than that both waterfalls were beautiful, and I totally recommend coming here!
