9/14/25 Course looks good. They punched the greens about a month ago and I would expect the greens to be really really good in two weeks even though theyâre rolling very well now. Bunkers and fairways in good shape. Friendly pro shop. Only complaint is not moving the tee markers from the previous day or days. Just seems really lazy. Tee markers are only 5 yards wide and really chewed up from previous play. In addition, all the par threes played very similar yardage. I hit the same club on all four part threes. During all their renovations, it wouldâve been really cool if they wouldâve put the putting green behind the clubhouse surrounding the statues. The current putting green isnât very useful and not convenient to the first tee. Continues to be a great local course, great for walking, history, playable for all, while challenging good players. Plays longer than the yardage. 12/15/24 What a turnaround! 3 months ago these greens were beyond awful. Well, they are now fantastic. Hard to believe but these greens are so good right now. Hope they found the magic formula to keep healthy. Evidently, they we using some bad water from the pond on #3 but they've remedied the situation and surfaces are a joy to putt. Bunkers are beautiful. Keep it up Cedar Crest. 9/3/24 Greens may be on track to returning to health. They are still very slow, but all the greens now have coverage, with no bare spots or insects nesting in them. Pro in the shop said they discovered the water in the pond on #3, which they use as their water source, has the incorrect PH levels and the water was killing the greens. They closed for 2 weeks, re-sodded where needed, and are now getting their water from the city. This course could be really good in 6 weeks.
6/9/24 Greens remain poor. Fantastic fairways, but not sure what's going on with the greens. Holes #4 and #12 had mud daubers nesting in the green. I've never seen that. There are holes all over the green with mud daubers flying in and out of them. Impossible to get the ball to the hole with a putt over 20 feet. I don't expect them to get any better with the Texas heat but hopefully they'll be back to healthy and true by the fall.
5/26/24 I love this layout, pace of play, and walkability, BUT, greens are painfully slow. Even more frustrating, when I made my tee time I asked how the greens were and the gentleman replied "Great!". You will lose my business that way. Be honest, and I'll return another time. Easily the slowest greens I've ever played on. So maddening because I love this course. We never could figure out how to hit the ball hard enough to get it to the hole. ...
Read moreOk, let me level set here. I am rating Cedar Creek 5 stars. It is not Pebble Beach, The Old Course, or Bethpage Black. However, as a total package of value, challenge, history, course conditions, and design, this is a great course.
Pros Great layout. Lots of ample fairways with a smattering of trees throughout. Lots of elevation change, which out of towners might not expect of a Dallas course. Some cool views of downtown Dallas on the back 9 holes.
Facilities are nice. Driving range is a bit on the small side but sufficient for even a steady weekend pre-round warmup. Putting greens and chipping areas are well maintained. Clubhouse is very nice for a muni.
The condition of the course overall was excellent. Bermuda tee boxes and fairways and tiff eagle Bermuda greens. Fairways are well grassed with very, very few bare areas. All the bare areas are underneath the trees.
Price is excellent. $50 for my Thursday morning round was a great value for this place.
Cons I had a miserably difficult time trying to book online. I tried from three different devices, including a Windows-based laptop, and could never book a tee time online. So I just went to the course as I was playing as a single.
Pro shop staff were inundated both when I called on my way to the course in an attempt to reserve a time over the phone. I was on hold 10 minutes before I hung up and just waited until I got to the course. While standing in line at the Pro Shop I heard two more people get out on permahold who ultimately hung up like I did. That needs some work.
this is not criticism of the course; rather, it is criticism for us golfers. If you are playing as a twosome and you are holding up foursomes behind you, either pick up your pace or let people play through. We had a twosome in front of our group of 4. Man, they were like Sergio Garcia when he had âthe wagglesâ over every shot. They used aim point for every puttâŚand I mean EVERY PUTT. And they walked up to look at green slope even when hitting 75 yard pitch shots. Please donât be those guys. And do us a favor, fix your ball marks on the green once you finally hit the ball after 14 waggles and aim pointing your 3-putts.
Overall, Cedar Crest was a great experience. I got to make some new friends and we had some great conversations along the way. The only thing that would have made today better for me would have been to not 3-putt four times after hitting the green in regulation. I still havenât figured out how to putt these greens!

Round took just over 3 hrs to play, so pace of play at that time was excellent.
Let me preface by saying that the greens on a golf course largely influence my overall opinion. With that being said, the conditions were overall poor. I went out there based solely on google reviews, and came away quite disappointed.
Many of the greens have large patchy/bare areas. It just looks like they're not watered at all. Out of the 18 greens, maybe 2 or 3 rolled semi-smoothly. The rest were quite bumpy and irregular. Plenty of sand in the bunkers, though the ones I visited were not raked or even (byproduct of playing late in the day).
The rough was cut down and fairways tightly mowed with few bare areas. Tee boxes were in fairly good shape, if not just a little long.
I enjoyed the layout. A lot of elevation changes throughout the course and a few water hazards.
Overall, with current conditions, I wouldn't recommend the course to anyone. Again, my opinion on golf courses is strongly shaped by the conditions of the greens, and this course is currently failing in...
