Excellent representation of Lao food, dishes are pretty salty & savory, servings are share-sized. We ordered Lao sausage and beef jerky (it is seen haang, not seen savanh) both had a good amount of fat and were freshly fried. The Lao sausage was herby with rice and was a bit sour (isaan kind), and the beef jerky was not too thick. 💯
We also ordered beef laap, sour although bitter was an option, and khaopiek sen. Both were FIRE. Laap had tripe and pig skins (?), and I added pork blood to my khaopiek sen which ended up being a heaping helping. Lastly we got a large sticky rice, which was served in a full styrofoam to-go box.
The neighborhood is a little hood as others have stated, but I consider that pretty normal for an authentic Lao restaurant in a grocery store. The owners seem to be Lao, and I think the man at the register had a younger person serve us since he greeted us in Lao, but we responded in English. We also thought it was funny that when we called ahead to see when they were closing the kitchen (5PM), the guy answered the phone with "Man nyung"... Can I get a Sa Bai Dee? 😂
I definitely recommend going out of your way...
