Mountain View Ranch — Local services in Danby

Disapointed with the man who i assume is the owner's attitude...can't confirm he's the owner as he never actually introduced himself, said his name, etc. but he was the only man around. Called a week in advance to ask about a ride, was told to come at a specific time on Saturday but to also call and confirm Saturday morning. I rearranged out schedule to accomodate the time i was told. When calling to confirm, he changed the time to an earlier time that was not going to be easy for us given we had already rearranged the rest of our schedule that day to comply with his earlier request. Got a lot of attitude when i brought up that he had said a different time previously, but in the end agreed to instead come the next morning. Upon arrival wasn't greeted other than a "hi" from the younger person working at the facility until i had been standing around 10 feet away from him for more than 5 minutes. I was told to keep my kids away from the horses who were tied to posts getting ready for a ride. When they asked if they could pet the horse i told them to go ask the nice man, and while the were walking over to ask him if they could pet a horse we were again gruffly told not to go near the horses, even though they were walking towards him to ask and not directly towards the horses. While i was offering the explanation that i had told them to ask him for permission to see if they could pet a horse, he turned his back on me and went inside the barn while i was mid-sentence. It's a shame, i live locally and have 2 kids very interested in horses, we could have come here for years to come, but there are several other places with more friendly ownership that i will support in the future. John, the owner, sets the tone from the top. His kindness, passion for the horses, and deep love for the land are evident in every part of the ranch. He welcomed us like family and made sure everything was just right. You can tell he’s poured his heart and soul into this place—and it shows.

And Hannah, our trail guide, was absolutely incredible. Her calm confidence, knowledge of the horses and trails, and the gentle way she led us through the ride made it an unforgettable experience. She was engaging, patient, and full of local stories and insight that brought the whole journey to life. She made even the most nervous riders feel comfortable and excited.

The horses were well-cared for, gentle, and clearly loved, which made a huge difference. The trails offered breathtaking views of the mountains and surrounding countryside—a perfect mix of serene meadows and quiet forest paths. It truly felt like stepping into another world.

Whether you’re a beginner or experienced rider, this place is a treasure. We left with full hearts, big smiles, and a deep appreciation for the people and animals who make Mountain View Ranch so special.

My friend and I drove about an hour and a half for a horseback riding experience that unfortunately fell short of our expectations.

Upon arrival, JOHN, who had previously affirmed his support for the military knowing my friend served, displayed a striking contrast in demeanor towards us. He was exceedingly friendly to my friend but distinctly unfriendly towards me. His behavior could be perceived as either racially biased or misogynistic, which was particularly evident when he tried to belittle my riding abilities, despite overhearing that I had some experience. Throughout the ride he was asking detailed questions about my friend’s life, and then just uncomfortable ones that even made him uncomfortable like “why did you ask for her number”…on and on (he’s assuming we’re together) This incident left a disheartening impression on us, so unexpected too! I’ve never in my life encountered anything like it if I’m being completely honest, he was so unpleasant I can’t even describe it…my friend and I agreed not to ever go back and not to recommend them to anyone.
