I absolutely cannot believe that racism still exists on this level. James and Cheryl are the rudest people that I have ever encountered in my entire life. I attempted to make a reservation with my friends for July 4th weekend. The resort uses AirBnb and I was immediately denied upon booking request. I assumed that this was only an issue with AirBnb so my white friend booked under her name instead....with no issues. Please bear in mind, I am over 25 and provided my identification so that they could see that they were renting to an upstanding citizen who happens to be African American. ||Upon arrival my friend checks in and we go to our cabin only to find hair under the top sheet on the bed as well as in the shower floor. I asked for new sheets and they gave me an attitude with a poor explanation that it was probably just the cleaning lady's as if that was supposed to make it ok. The tv in the master bedroom was broken and wouldn't even turn on. Their website says no pets IN the house, but pets are allowed at the campsites. I mistook that for meaning as long as you don't keep your pet in the house, you are fine....WRONG. Upon seeing my dog, Cheryl very rudely yelled from a golf cart, "Yall ain't lettin that dog in the house are you?" We said no, she drove off, and we went on about our business. ||We walked across the street to our friend's cabin and while my ten year old son and I were chatting with my friends, we were bombarded by Cheryl intruding and demanding to know who "THESE PEOPLE" are. I could immediately tell that there was some sort of misunderstanding, so I asked what the problem was. She yelled "you need to leave or get rid of that dog!" She asked my friend if he wanted to pay an extra $250 for the dog and he said no, but of course I said sure, I can do that! Cheryl was so furious that she failed to realize we were trying to alleviate the problem the whole time. I thought that maybe if I put the cabin in my name with my card on file, she would calm down. WRONG AGAIN....we were harassed the entire time we were there. James came back to make sure our dog was gone and then on the day of check out Cheryl began threatening us with more fees as we were loading up our vehicles. On my way out, I stopped by the office to politely say goodbye and let them know where were out of the cabin and there was no need to charge us any fees. ||Although we did everything that we were asked and treated the staff with kindness and respect, there was nothing that we could do to appease Cheryl. As a corporate quality manager, who successfully mediates problems with clients on a regular basis, I decided to try to contact James directly since he is the owner. As soon as I told him which unit I stayed in, he immediately began talking over me in a very nasty, condescending way. I attempted to discuss my concerns about the cleanliness of the cabin at a time when they are expected to minimize the risk of spreading a virus during a pandemic to no avail. I tried to let him listen to the voicemail that Cheryl left by accident, revealing the way that she treated me in front of my son, but he wasn't interested. He wouldn't listen to a word I said, no matter how soft spoken and polite I was. All he needed to know was that I was that Black girl from C-20. He proceeded to hang the phone up in my face and has refused to answer as well as return my calls. As if that wasn't enough, I got home and checked my bank statements and Cheryl had charged me a late fee for still being on the premises at noon on the day of checkout. That's right, not for still being in the cabin, but for still being in the parking lot as we tried to fit our floats in our cars!||ANYONE that comes even close to doubting me is welcome to hear the voicemail as well as see my gps! I am so ashamed to say that my money has contributed to a business that is ran by racist thieves! My kids loved the kayaks btw, but we can do that somewhere...
Read moreI have been RV'ing since 1970 and this was the worst experience ever! If you show up after dark (yes, they tell you this) you have to park outside the gate, (only have 1 space.) They tell you the reason is so you don't disturb the guests, when in reality all the driveways are dead ends leading to all spaces. The driveways are so narrow, they may actually need to ask someone to move a vehicle so you can back in your trailer. I was lucky that the space across was empty, so I could back in, but soon realized (when they planned to put a large trailer in across from me), I would not be able to get out. All spaces are angled, but you can't pull out as it's a dead end! Spoke to the management about leaving a few days early so I would not get boxed in, and I would move to another campground. They refused to refund any money, so I had to waste my vacation time moving my trailer sideways in my space so I could get out before the trailer across the driveway came in. The manger then told me he has put longer 5th wheel trailers in the same spot. I guess he has never owned a trailer, as he would know a 5th wheel can turn 90 deg. to the truck. A bumper pull trailer can't do this without jackknifing and damaging both the truck and trailer, He was extremely rude. Then to make your stay even worse, they called me when I was out for the day, saying they could not get the new guest in across the driveway, was I close by? I guess they were going to ask me to move my trailer??, I have no idea what they had planned, but I was not close by to help them. Both the 30amp and 50-amp receptacles have melted sockets, I know this as I am a Licensed Electrical Contractor. I did not bother to complain, as they are obviously only in this to make money, not provide a "resort" experience. What they also fail to tell you is most of the people are full time, so they get up at 5am to go to work, start their diesel vehicles and let them warm up, so much "quiet time hours being enforced" Rented a pontoon boat from them, (have a boat at home) Lake Norman is huge and you can get lost very easily if you don't know the lake, which I did not. When I got on the water, I found out the GPS did not work. When I returned, I asked about this and they said "ya we know" Would have been nice to know before, could have rented a better boat from a local marina for $125 a day cheaper and for a full day, not a half day, with a working GPS. They also told me they inspected the boat for damage, including the prop prior to taking the boat, no damage reported. Before I left I inspected it myself and took pictures of the prop, as it had damage. We were told we could not take a dog on the boat because it was a new boat, no problem. But it clearly was not, as the boat seats had mold on them and stains, food left on the floor from a previous rental, obviously not sanitized as you would expect during Covid 19. This place is nothing more than a mobile home park with some spaces available for vacationers, and at $90 per night is...
