Gave Gem City Tech a call after I accidentally ripped my headphones out of the jack on my TV (tripped on a headphone jack extension cable), resulting in a small part of the plug-in to be stuck in the jack. I was able to get the TV to them for a successful repair the next day, but an issue occured where one of the employees accidentally cracked the screen during reassembly, making the TV unusable. To Gem City Tech's credit, the owner, Denzel, immediately called to apologize, and had already done some quick research to offer replacement TV options that met/exceeded the specs of our old TV. When I chose a replacement, he was able to purchase it and get it to me same day. When I noticed the replacement TV didn't have a headphone jack (neither of us would've guessed this would be an issue), he ordered a part to resolve this issue. In truth, the replacement TV isn't ideal for our use for multiple reasons, but the final decision was mine to make and I didn't want to wait what would have been several days for an ideal replacement. But this TV is suitable as a stop-gap while I save up for a preferred replacement. The point is that Denzel and Gem City Tech did everything right, and asked of them, in regards to fixing the issue to ensure my overall satisfaction in regards to fixing their mistake, even if it meant not making, but losing money. I wouldn't expect a lot of businesses to go to this extent for customer...
Read moreWould not recommend. Wanted to give a smaller local business a try with my broken HDMI port inside my PS5. I talked to the guy on the phone he was nice and I was given a free estimate to look at the console and we discussed getting it fixed same day. I would pay extra for that which was no problem, I wanted it fixed same day. After I dropped it off I got a call later on that they will not be able to fix it because they did not switch out the entire HMDI port like I said it needed. So he was going to switch out the HDMI port the next day instead of the first time around. Cool!! So I was to wait until the next day and if it doesn’t work then I would have to wait another 4-5 days until his boss (the one who knows what he’s doing supposedly). So that defeats the purpose of me taking it to them to pay extra for the same day fix. Long story short I told him I couldn’t wait that long and I had to come back and get it and he tried to charge me for parts. Obviously that’s illegal because he sent me a free estimate and we smoke on a price if it was fixed same day. I’m sure they get tons of customers with that one haha. Everything’s fine now there’s 3 other locations that fix HDMI ports same day for a little bit cheaper than they do. And they will actually replace the HDMI port when that’s what needs done to fix it. Nice guy, not a great business by any means. Over priced and a little...
Read moreCalled ahead, owner said he would be there, but wasn't. Dropped off my computer with another man there, gave him description of problem. They never called with a diagnosis. 2 days later I called and they said it needed a new hard drive and that it would take 2 weeks and did not have a price for the repair. What is this? 1975? Two weeks, and they couldn't even promise that, for a hard drive my teenage kid could do in two hours, including the drive to Best Buy?
Finally got them to agree to have it in 2-3 days at a price of $270. I'm not complaining about the discount, but when I got there they charged me $125. Was the other price just something they made up? It left me feeling like I could have spent way more than I should have.
After returning with the PC, I found that they installed Windows 7; before it had Windows 8. Nobody asked me), and it runs incredibly slowly, hanging up on the simplest applications like MS Office and Firefox. I would call them, but I'm afraid of them making it worse...
