We had a fantastic meal and a very pleasant dining experience last night. Though they were very busy with large parties and my two children and I just walked in with no reservation, we were still greeted warmly and promptly, seated immediately, and served quickly. The staff all appeared to work together as a team to ensure that the needs of all guests were quickly and correctly met, and the owner/manager (not sure who he was!), did a great job of monitoring and directing the amazing flurry of activity to ensure that all went smoothly. Our meal was delicious and everything was correct, and our drinks were kept filled with the correct beverages without us ever having to request refills. Though the place was very busy, the staff all seemed comfortable, confident and competent - nobody seemed stressed and we did not feel rushed or unwelcome. The staff were all familiar with the menu items and were able to make much-appreciated suggestions and recommendations. Our server sat down next to my 8-year-old daughter and spoke directly with her when she took her order and made sure that she got exactly what she wanted - that was soooooo appreciated - thank you! My 16-year-old daughter thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience - ambience, service, and food! Next time we are in Dayton we will be back! Thank you!

A Must-Visit Gem in Downtown Dayton! Had lunch yesterday at The Amber Rose with four incredibly badass human beings from Dayton’s real estate world, and let me just say—this place did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was warm, welcoming, and full of old-world charm. The food? Outstanding. A few in our group had the famous cabbage rolls (which clearly live up to their stellar reputation across the Miami Valley), and I went with the Hunter Schnitzel… which was on freaking believable. Perfectly cooked, richly flavorful, and left me planning my next visit before I even left the table. But the real highlight? The exceptional service—delivered by none other than my beautiful first cousin, Emily Wendling! She brought both warmth and professionalism to the table and made our entire experience even more memorable. If you’re looking for top-notch food, unforgettable hospitality, and a Dayton spot that gets it right, look no further than The Amber Rose. And when you go, be sure to ask for Emily—you will not regret it.

If you love German food, don't bother. If you like salt, flavor, or a great deal on your meal, also don't waste your time. My steak stroganoff ($24) arrived with bland curdled sauce and sopping wet noodles. The potato pancakes (2 for $11.50) are the size of small hamburger patties and aren't actually authentic potato pancakes, but rather fried mashed potato cakes. Our three sausage sampler ($19) was mid--the bratwurst tasted like a hamburger patty, the knockwurst tasted like soapy bologna, but the Lithuanian sausage was pretty on point. The sauerkraut balls ($10.50) were good, the star of the dish being the side sauces. The mashed potato and sauerkraut sides were great. Our "Caesar" salads were regular house salads. Good portions for the sausage dinner, huge portion of the (unedible) stroganoff, and disappointing potato pancakes for the price. Do yourself a favor, and just don't. ***of note, the staff and ambiance were delightful. But its really unfortunate what they serve out of that kitchen.

The food is great but the service on take out is horrible. If you are a police officer, nurse, worker in the field who travels your whole shift and eats out of your car, this is not the place to get food. They put all the dinners into same container so everyone has to eat off same plate. They even acknowledged they combined the dinners into one container even though they were ordered as separate dinners.

I repeated several times when I ordered that I had two dinner orders. One dinner with 2 sausage, mashed potatoes/gravy and sauerkraut. Second dinner would be mashed potatoes/gravy and sauerkraut. I went to pick the order up. One container had two sausages and the other container had two orders of potatotes/gravy and two orders of sauerkraut.. I had to explain again there were two dinners, one had sausage, the other didn't, please put potatoes, sausage and sauerkraut in one container, the second container should have potatoes and sauerkraut. They took the food in the back to finally make two dinners. They brought the containers back and it was wrong again. I looked at the containers and now they put a sausage in each container. The second dinner was for person doesn't eat this type of meat. Obviously not respectful of someone's culture/beliefs. They said they would fix it. I just gave up, took the containers. I figured one person would have two dinners and i would go pick up something else for the other person who didn't eat sausage.

I guess they do not understand that not everyone wants to eat off their coworkers plate. All I wanted was to take my coworker their meal.. i had been working since before 8 am, only had a couple crackers to eat all day. All I wanted for myself was to sit in my car, eat a meal to sustain me until 1am when I would finish work.

Years ago I would eat at this restaurant all the time but now I work 7 days a week so it is impossible to dine in. After taking family member there on a vacation day a couple weeks ago, I decided I would get take out every week.. The food is great but since you can't get dinners in separate eating containers, it isn't worth the aggravation. I am not sure why customer would need to explain to explain why they can't, don't want to eat off someone else's plate.

Imagine not eating all day, being police office and just been shot at. Or a nurse watching patients die. Or watching your buddy being crushed by machinery working on road repair. All you want is some comfort food for you and your coworker to get thru rest of the day. A horrible day only to be told when you pick up your food that they know you ordered separate dinners but they chose to do things another way. A horrible day and to have someones cultural beliefs disrespected by placing sausage in their food. At least there is salad, mac a cheese at Chic fila as substitute for the dinner. You can't just take the sausage out of the container once it has touched...

Stopped in after a hankering for Eastern European comfort food struck me. I had the sausage sampler. For $23 I got 3 different brats that they obviously just bought at Kroger and microwaved. They were nestled on a bed of bland sauerkraut and served with mustard in a plastic cup (really? Need to use a stainless steel little cup or something more visually appealing!). It was plated on a thick, white plate from the 90’s that you see for sale by the hundreds at Goodwill. Interior decor, tables, bar, etc was very dated. Ceiling looks like it has water leaks and it the whole place seems depressed to me. I’m shocked a young entrepreneurial couple hasn’t taken over/opened a different restaurant that serves this type of ethnic food in a better looking establishment with some nicer, hip decor. This place is not a good ambassador for the proud ethnic history of Old North Dayton. They could really spruce up this place and make it nicer with a few adjustments: play polka music or something overhead, use nicer, decorative plates and flatware from Europe, refresh the interior overall! The waitress was very friendly and experienced but all 3-4 waitresses were very busy rushing about. I’m glad this restaurant somehow maintains a good customer base but once the boomers are all gone (nearly all the diners were age 70+), this place is going to kick the bucket along with them unless they make some serious upgrades. Also the exterior, decorative lamp posts were not turned on when I left and it was dark. Being in rougher neighborhood, they need better parking lot lighting and better, more welcoming landscaping, etc. Overall I was disappointed and would NOT bring out of town guests to The Amber Rose. I hate to leave a downvote on them, but they really need to improve this place. It left me feeling sad that...

The staff was not very friendly, the food wasn’t good and we were being rushed to leave even though only a few tables had people in them and we had over 30 minutes still until closing. The appetizer sampler was great, but it went down quick from there. The salad looked like a bag of lettuce dropped into a bowl with dressing dumped on top like an ice-cream topping. When the food finally arrived it tasted as though the chef dumped salt off the shelf into the pan, realized his mistake and kept cooking hoping he could add enough sauce to cover it up. Although the food was bad, simply put the service was the worst part of our experience. We stood at the door for three minutes while four staff cleaned one table. Not a greeting, not a we will be with you soon. Nothing. After we were seated we waited another 8 minutes on our server to get back from her smoke break. She reeked of it as she leaned over us to place the silverware and napkins on the table. After taking our drink order she immediately left before checking to see if we were ready, and we were. Finally, she came back five minutes later with one glass of wine and two waters; I believe the water should have been dropped off earlier and our appetizer order taken then. After all the food was delivered, they kept coming by to check and see if they could take our empty plates, which we kept to share parts of each other’s meals; they never asked if we needed anything, only if they could take our plates. I overheard another couple get asked by their server “are you keeping that glass to the last drop?” Stunned, the gentleman replied, “absolutely.” We exchanged looks and we had both apparently suffered similar treatment throughout the evening. We wanted this place to become our place, but I doubt we have the courage to give them a...
