As a first time gun buyer, I was SO exited for my first purchase however, I feel my experience with this store has totally ruined this experience for me overall. I first had a bad experience before even going to the store, I had ordered my gun online and had waited about 3 weeks, on the email they stated they will call when ready. For the sake of being fair in the review, they did not give me an estimate for when the guy would arrive, however after 2 1/2 weeks I called simply just to see if there was an update or I could check the status of the gun due to needing it for CDL class at the end of the month, I was told "If we didn't call we don't have it" and was told to wait. I felt that was a little rude, I hung up feeling quite confused and would have waited but felt they could have explained this a little better. About 3 weeks after ordering, it arrived and I did receive a call to pick it up. I was very excited! I arrived, several employees were standing around talking to one another, I wait patiently and then am finally helped after they finish talking, which is fine, I am patient and will wait. I tell them I am there to pick up an order, both employees go back and forth with one another over who will help me. Once they finally decide, I go back to the counter and begin to start my paperwork. They ask me what kind of gun I ordered, I go to get my phone to check my receipt, as a first time buyer I was nervous to mispronounce or say the wrong thing since I don't know much of the terminology, as I pause to look it up, they say, "You don't know what you ordered?". I try to explain I do know what I ordered but not the entire name, brand, kind etc all the terminology, they look at each other and begin to laugh, then the one worker decides he will pass me off to another worker. They again question me, they state, "are you buying this for someone else?". Which is fair enough, I know there are a lot of regulations as a therapist, I think safety is VERY important. I express no but they suggest that it seems I may be because I cannot state fast enough the type of gun I am buying. I pull up the receipt and show them to which they go and get it. They ask me 4x times if I am buying it for someone else to which I state no. They seem to not believe this answer, they asked me how I chose this gun and I explain that my boyfriend is an informed gun owner and had recommended this model, they again instantly question me by saying "you can't buy this for your boyfriend", I state for another 2 or 3x that the gun is FOR me. After this it was all downhill, I was there for over an hour and a half. I had over 4 workers come and go to help me... The entire time I was holding back tears as I felt I was being talked to in a very condescending manner. To be clear, I understand they must ask questions, I understand the legality of it and I am all for ensuring the process is safe however their tone and behavior made me incredibly uncomfortable. They run my background check and laugh as it passes almost as if they are surprised when they declared "it went though, huh! would you look at that". The entire hour and a half I waited, they joked and pushed each other behind the counter and were acting like a bunch of young kids playing on a playground. They then state everything is done, I ask "Do I need to sign anything else", they say no. I wait for another 15 minutes as they joke around back and forth until they then check me out. Their behavior towards me made me so uncomfortable, I didn't want to purchase ammo from there due to not wanting to be ridiculed for having questions... They laughed almost the entire time, whenever I said anything or had a question. People who started their paperwork AFTER me, finished before me. I was there longer then any other person until the store was about to close. As a woman and first timer I feel it is important to write this because I would hate for someone else to feel the way I did today, I felt a special moment for me was ruined by their unprofessionalism. I would NOT recommend this location after...
Read moreWhile it has been awhile since my first visit to Total Firearms, I wanted to sit down and finally share my experience here.
Literally minutes before I walked into Total Firearms I had paid a visit to another firearms shop known as Michigan Police Supply, now I had a list of what I intended to purchase but I also brought my necessary State of Michigan retirement paperwork so that I could utilize my S.O.M., discount. After I greeted the staff, which they appeared more bothered by presence than anything else, I continued to browse the store, I saw they had a few firearms that I was looking for so I told the salesman what I was interested in, that I planned to purchase that day, and I handed him my identification, and documentation. To which he only slightly leaned forward off his stool, looked at the paperwork, and then began asking questions about how was it that I was retired at such a young age, at first I answered him politely; but his onslaught of questions and his demeanor led me to thank him for his time, and I left their establishment to which I will never return.
My first experience at Total Firearms was great, as soon as I entered the shop I was greeted by three individuals at the door, plus two very friendly furry four legged guard dogs (Hunter and Abby).
Even though the store was busy with many other customers, well outnumbering the staff that was present; I was impressed by how attentive each staff member was, Mark both Jr. & Sr., Duane, Jason, Don, Ron, Kenny, Jack, and Mike). Now the shop has a large showroom, packed with a very impressive inventory; something for everyone easily. Which Don took a moment and explained to me how everything was organized. Additionally the shop, and its facilities were clean and appeared to be well kept.
Advise from everything mentioned above, I have to applaud Mark Jr., Don, and Jack on their ability to keep you engaged on a personal and professional level. While they gathered up my list which contained a Colt AR15, Benelli m3, Glock 22c Gen3, Glock 23 Gen4, and a Glock 27 Gen4 , along with plenty of ammo; they were very thorough in handling the required paper work for my purchases.
While the lien check, paperwork were being completed, Mark Jr., conversed with me because he recognized me, and again the world is a small place. While talked, Ron, Duane, and Kenny checked the Colt AR15, Benelli m3, and all three of the Glocks in for some upgrades
It needs to be said that I was even more impressed by the safe handling of the firearms, it is clearly apparent that safety comes first when handling firearms. As I was observing the staff pulling each firearm out of a display case for a customer to look at, before they would pass it over to the customer they would clear it, pass it to them racked back and instruct each customer on how to do the same, and when the customer returned the firearm the staff would clear it again before returning it to the display case.
The level of professionalism that is present, along with safety is welcoming and impressive. To see each and everyone of the staff members work well together, to see that each of them is attentive to the customers but also safety conscious only adds to this already amazing shop.
Coming to this shop for the first time as a potential customer, I can honestly say that I left as a loyal...
Read moreYou typically know what to expect from a small and local gun store. There will always be an old and grey, 100-200 pound over weight guy who was a former local police officer with yearly basic shooting quals, or former army infantry with 2 years of peacetime service and 50 rounds through a 1911 somehow make him a modern special operations tactics expert, a ballistics guru, and a complete arrogant prick. (He'll probably have a 1911 on his waist, look on the other side of the pot belly if you don't see it at first) The second guarantee is that there will be a 20-30 year old behind the counter who shot at the range a few times, picked up a few obscure and completely false ideals from the old guy, but is somehow twice the expert and twice as arrogant. Nature of the business for some reason, and it sucks as a customer even though it is sometimes fun to watch the clown show. The butcher sells you the meat, but he isn't a 5 star chef. So you deal with it, buy the guns you want, and move on.
But I have never had one of these guys walk away from a $1700 gun purchase, and just move on. I came in looking for a Benelli Super Nova, 28" barrel in camo. I handled the guns the on the racks for 15 minutes or so to see if I liked the forward safety opposed to the rear safety on my old SBE. Two guys were purchasing handguns, and both guys were filling out the paperwork. I was greeted about 10 minutes after being there, one of 3 people in the store. Shortly after I turned around, the shotguns are directly in front of the counter, and asked if they had or could get the gun I wanted. There was only a 26" camo, and a 28" black on the floor. The guy with the grey hair and mustache told me he would see and then mentioned that they are on their way out with working with Benelli. Okay. I'm standing here trying to buy a $1700 gun from you, nice tidbit. He finished filling out the paperwork that he was helping the other guy behind the counter with, then asked the guy that just walked in behind me if he needed help and walked with him further down the counter while I stood there. I never got an answer to my question, and was blatantly walked away from. If there was no 28" camo in the store I was going to buy the black one or the 26" camo. I couldn't believe it. I'm new to the area and read the reviews before going in to the store, and all the bad ones seemed like the typical local gun store to me, so I couldn't imagine there would be any kind of issue. I'm not going to fight my way back in front of customers that arrived 30 minutes after I did to spend $2,000 with taxes, case of shells, and a case.
Huge disappointment would have been nice to have a decent...
