Mom's Meals — Local services in Des Moines

My mother has several health concerns, one of which is the need for low sodium and renal friendly dietary intake. Her healthcare provider who does regular follow ups with her, offered to have mom start to receive a renal friendly diet of chef prepared meals. When she said “Mom’s Meals”, I thought that was the perfect name for it.

The meals are delivered in a large box weighing about 20 lbs, with styrofoam sides, bottom and top, and two large frozen pouches to keep it all frozen or ice cold until we receive it. You just put it in the fridge. All shipping material is recyclable for green conscious people. Each box has a week’s worth of breakfasts and dinners, along with juices, fruit cups, applesauce, and snacks. It is rounded out pretty well. It really is the ideal option for those who need to eat better, but don’t have the capacity to obtain the right foods to do so.

A staff member calls every week to see if we want to change anything in the menu options. It’s as easy as saying what you did not like and asking for more of what you preferred. All orders are delivered by the very capable UPS driver right to our door. What more could we want for mom?

If you have a specific dietary need that is not being met or you’re having complications in meeting those needs, ask your primary care provider for a referral like you would any other specialist. Most insurance providers will accept the referral and cover the costs.

And by the way, mom says the stir fry and the white bean and ham soup are out of this world. Just sayin’ it got her stamp of approval. So yum for her. And maybe yum for you if you ask your doctor for that referral. All you do is ask and everyone else will do all the work. What more could...

The problem I have with Mom's Meals is the delivery service not the meals. The delivery service started off good. Then suddenly my boxes of food were not being delivered to my home and the company said that the box of food had been delivered. The food was being delivered by Mom's Meals truck. My name and address are on the boxes which makes me more concerned. This has happened about five times within two months. I am fed up now. Nothing is being done to find out where my food is being delivered to. So I had to cancel...
