If there was a ten star rating, Hood's would get it from me -- they totally hit it out of the park when it comes to bringing back goo ol' fashioned customer service!
I woke up Sunday and saw my tire was low. When I got to work, all I go do was dread the thought of going to Belle Tire and being treated like a hunk of meat thrown into a pit of starving tigers.
As luck would have it, my mi-day client that day saw my flat tire and mentioned it when she came into the studio. I told her about my dread in going to Bell Tire, and she immediately related her totally positive experience at Hood's.
I immediately called them (it was 12noon), and told them that I had pumped my tire up and asked if they could fix it if I brought the car down. The very polite young man on the phone advised me that they closed at 2pm, but that they would definitely take care of me if I brought it in soon.
When I made it to their shop on Mack, I first thought was a drive-in restaurant. Then, one of their staff saw my confusion and directed me into the queue for service.
It turns out the young man was Eric Hood the great grandson of the founder of the company (wrap your head around the fact that they have been in business since 1957) -- THAT'S NOT A TYPO - 1957!! Eric's dad was also on site that day -- another real gentleman!!
Walk through in your mind what businesses you know that have been around that long and stayed in the family. Well, the service I received brought back growing up in the 1960s and 1970s when the words "great customer service" meant more than a drone dropping off your order and getting it to hit somewhere on your property!
I was in and out of their facility with a new tire, my tires rotated, and a warm handshake thanking me for visiting. Being in the retail business for over 50 years, I can't tell you what a pleasant experience it was and what a "blast from the past" their genuine concern for their clients meant to me!!
Eric - if you're reading this -- keep up what your forefathers have done for close to 70 years -- give people a fair price with excellent service and you'll always be an "11" out of "10"...
Read moreI recommend not going unless you want to be surprised with extra fees. When i arrived i asked how much the tire would cost. I was told $65. Which i was ok with. After they put the tire on another person came out and told me i would be charged a extra $15 for disposing of the tire. I told him if i knew that i wouldn’t have got the tire. He tried to tell me i was paying $65 + $15 for a brand new tire. I needed a tire i didn’t care if it was new or used. I have a tire guy on gratiot near statefair that keeps cheap used tires and i get more then my money worths out of them. Unfortunately hadnt called me back until i was getting the tire changed and i couldn’t risk him not being open. We went back and forth for a couple of minutes about it respectfully. Then i told him i would pay $60 off of my card then the rest in cash. He then told me he would only charge me $55 on card because the card reader charges extra as well. So i paid 58.30 on card which only $55 would have went to my payment. Then $15 in cash. I believe he called hisself giving me a discount. The tire i got looks exactly like the one i purchased the next day for $45 on gratiot & statefair area from Melvin. If their tires are going to include a disposal fee they should inform people when they ask for the price. They have it to where not one person does more then one job. But no one there looked new to the job so when someone asks for a price it seems very sneaky of them to not mention...
Read moreI called Hood Tires this morning and asked for estimated on 4 tires. The gentleman told me he needed to know the size of my tires because there were 2 sizes for my particular vehicle. I go home and get my husband and when we pulled up to the business we were greeted by Mr. T (I can't spell his Italian name sorry). I told him that I just called about 20 minutes ago and the gentlemen said he would take care me. So my husband and I tell T what we wanted and he told us go make ourselves comfortable in the office and he would be in shortly. I shared with T that this was my first time and I had read some of the reviews online and I was really impressed. T gives my husband and I a history on the company and the diversity of customers that comes to see them. I told him I saw the Canadian customer review and others he had mentioned. The fact that they have a diverse customers base from in state and out of state demonstrate their good customer service. I love the fact that they believe helping the community and I will definitely be recommending the service to anyone who needs tires. By the way, they have towing a service that will come to you and fix your tire, how awesome is that!! Open 7 days a week and 24 hours!! Thank you T and Mr Hood for your great customer...
