Going to the Greenville-Pickens Speedway is really fun. Lack of signage on where to park and other basic info for newbies to the track made me downgrade them a star. I had to go into their office and ask where to go, what to do, etc. It definitely didn't ruin my evening. Everyone was very friendly. The races were very entertaining. FYI, if you want to go, when you pull into the place, go left through the gate to the little blue she'd to buy your race tickets if you're bringing chairs, alcohol, etc. If you want to sit in the stadium seats (Grandstands), go right instead down this long path that maybe seems like it can't be where you're supposed to be. If you see a cone or barrel, drive around it. No outside alcohol in the Grandstands, I guess, although I couldn't be sure as I definitely saw people with it. Keep it subtle and you're probably fine. I think we saw 7 races. None of the races are all that long, but I think that's a good thing at this local level. The main event is 40 laps. When the races were over, I left feeling satisfied, but wanting to come back and see more. Don't go expecting modern, state of the art facilities. Go expecting to enjoy an awesome, old school, few frills racetrack with local race car drivers. While there's room for improvement (reasonable - a few signs and other small touches), I highly recommend going. There aren't too many places you can go where you can bring outside food and drink, chill out on your own or your party without anyone bothering you, and be thoroughly entertained at the same time. I didn't know the drivers. I don't know much about NASCAR. I'm barely a casual fan. We would have fun picking who we thought would win and cheering them on for reasons as deep as "I like that paint job" or "they qualified first so...
Read moreWe went to see the Christmas lights here @ Greenville Pickens Speedway. The price was $25 dollars for our Jeep (2 adults & 3 kids). They charge more $$ for buses. The line was long but it was split into two lines which made it quicker. They had lots of neat Christmas lights & music you could sync up w/ through your radio while you drove through the lights. After seeing the lights, you're guided to parking. There they have a few rides for younger kids (from ages toddler to teen), a ferris wheel for ppl of all ages. These rides you ride by purchasing tickets, which adds up fast. They have concessions; funnel cakes, hot dogs, corn dogs, fried oreos, things like that. There's also a decent size building with a decent size petting zoo w/ bulls, donkeys, cows, bunnies, & goats you can pet for free. However, they offer feed to feed the animals for an additional price (I believe it was $3.00). They have lots of little blow up characters you can take pictures by. Then there's a Santa Land where you can visit & take pics with Santa. There's also a place where you fill up a stocking/cup w/ goodies for an additional cost. Overall it was a great time for our kids. It was all clean. The money can add up fast so if you think your kids are gonna want snacks, ride rides, feed the animals, take pics with Santa, etc... bring plenty of extra cash. If not you have the option to simply go through the lights line & turn off to by pass all the extra stuff. Would recommend. Great...
