Grand Traverse Distillery — Local services in East Bay Township

Had a wonderful experience, my girlfriend saw this tour pop up for things to do around traverse city, the price for the experience Is well worth it. Wonderful woodsland drive up to the location, although a bit hard to find, maps seems to show the auto shop in the same business loop as the location, but there are some signs showing the way. Once you get there you are greeted in a nice cozy tasting room, and very friendly staff (my memory is cursed to never retain names, but I believe our guide was Laura, if I’m wrong, we were the goofy couple with the sticker van, feel free to correct me) she led us through several options, which let to me finding and falling in love with the chipotle vodka+costal Mary mix, and my girlfriend immediately buying a bottle of their in house bourbon, found out some interesting info on the distilling and aging processes, and overall had a great time. Visited the tasting room downtown Traverse City this week. Awful service. No one smiled at us. Our drinks were AWFUL and certainly not worth what we paid for them. I ordered a drink that claimed to have cilantro and seranno pepper- which I expected to be flavorful and spicy- and neither came through in the drink. Also could not taste the liquor, which I would expect to be front and center since they're using their own spirits. The presentation was incredibly unimpressive- rocks glass, ice, straw. No garnish! My friend ordered a mojito. The mint wasn't even muddled, and the bartender was heavy on the rum. The drink had no balance, and was hard to drink. Will not be coming back again. We had such an incredible experience here! We have been going to the Leland tasting room each summer we visit for the past 5 years and have loved and supported them ever since we first started going and enjoying their whiskeys and cherry vodka. This trip we finally got to tour the distillery and are so glad we did! It was such a cool experience and Stephen was great. Explained everything well, answered all our questions, made the experience fun and memorable, and made us love the company and products even MORE!
