Good's carries a wide variety of what I call "life products"-- things that enhance good, healthy living--in a positive atmosphere of smiling and sincerely helpful people who work there.
It is a copious and wonderful supply of yard goods for clothing and home enhancing items, and the people working there can usually help with sewing questions, as they are often well-experienced in that nearly lost art.
Good's is THE place to go for home canning equipment & supplies, and a trusted source for ready made family clothing, including sturdy shoes and farmwear. There are toys & books for children, even handmade doll clothes, gardening supplies & equipment, home decor items, and even high-reel clothesline setups and wooden clothes-drying racks.
It's worth the trip to go and walk thru this department- store- on- one- floor just to look around and feel the good vibes which are so missing in so many malls these days. --not to mention that it's across a driveway from the Shady Maple Market (groceries plus baskets of fruit in season, an entire in-store bakery, unsurpassed meat dept., and almost more cheeses than you can count along with dinner/dessert-in-the-deli in whatever amount you choose and more, more, more)!
Both Good's and the market are a walk down the hill from the Shady Maple Smorgasbord. You can make a special day of just these 3 destinations, if you're...
Read moreWhen we go to Lancaster a trip to the Goods Store is always on the agenda. It offers a nice variety of standard brand name items mixed in with sturdy tools and some hand crafted things signature of the local mennonite & amish communities that pride themselves on living simply, craftsmanship, and hard work. The prices arent always cheapest but it is clear that quality is a focus in the things they offer... and the staff is always so pleasant. Highly recommend you stop in here if you are in the vicinity as well as the market in the same parking lot. And one of the largest buffets in the area is just behind it. I think it is called the Shady Maple Smorgasbord (but dont quote me as that is off the top of my head)... though we prefer the smaller Hershey Inn buffet not too far down the road. Convenient if you are in for a show at either Sight and Sound or the American Music Theater (great Christmas musical shows every year btw). Also we used to visit the outlet mall in the same general area... still there but not quite as great of deals in our opinion. But thats not really about the Goods Store. Sorry... all that to say it is a nice place to stop in if you are...
Read moreI know of nowhere else that I can find baby essentials like cloth diapers & pins, rubber pants, glass baby bottles, old-fashioned handmade baby clothes, and more for better prices and quality. I also know of nowhere else that I can find such high quality socks, slips, housewares, even handmade brooms, for such excellent prices. I found the best shoes I've ever worn for a solid $20 less than on Amazon (not including shipping!). The craft section is wonderful, too--have not seen such excellent prices on yarn since my childhood in the early 1990s! And on top of the prices and quality, Good's Store has a calm, peaceful Christian atmosphere that I find very soothing. Everyone who works here has impeccable manners and is friendly and helpful, too. I drive from the Allentown area 3-4 times a year, and it's worth the trip and then some! Especially with a baby on the way, I think I'll be coming MUCH more often!!! (I do wish that Good's would open up a store in Kirbyville, though--there's a sizeable Amish and Plain Mennonite community there, and I'd certainly go more often than once every few months...
