I hired Mr. Sparky through a third party company to install a ceiling fan that I had purchased from Lowes. Keep in mind that I had already removed the existing fixture, so all I needed was a basic installation. Right off the bat the operator couldn’t provide me with a ballpark quote, which seemed odd to me but she waived the $75 fee to come out.
Adam H. showed up to install the fan on time, and had it finished within a couple hours. It works and looks great, I have no issues there. Just as an FYI he charged me $293 for the install, which was insane because it was basic wiring, he didn’t even have to replace the electrical box.
After the install was where the problem started. We just moved into this home, and Adam inquired as to whether we had an inspection done. We had waived our initial inspection, so he offered to do a whole home inspection free of charge. I thought why not, let him check everything out.
He finished his inspection and let us know that we would need an entirely new breaker box. It was from the late 90’s, made out of aluminum, and was on the verge of combusting into flames. He also informed us that we needed all of our plugs and switches exchanged, as well as a surge protector and arc protector all for the tune of 16k. I wasn’t born yesterday, so I let him know that I would be getting quotes before I did anything. He pushed back on that, letting me know that I could find a cheaper price but that the contractors here are likely unlicensed and the work will be subpar.
I have no problem with a company charging as they please. What I do have a problem with is a company coming in and taking advantage of a situation. I own my home with my mother, and at first glance he likely thought that as two woman we had no idea what we were doing and that by implying that this was an immediate safety concern we would have agreed to this insane price. He also inquired about too many personal details, like the cost of my house which is in no way his business.
After he left I did some research and found that this company is known to tell clients the same exact story, that their breaker is old and made of aluminum and is an immediate safety concern. Please grtt a second opinion from a reputable electrician before you make any decisions, this is a sales pitch and they’re preying on...
Read moreHad our first check up from our plan and was told our house was not properly grounded and had no surge protection. That was indeed the case. However, some discrepancies with this. I feel as though my wife was pressured into making a decision on the spot (I didn’t get home till later like right before he was about to leave) and she was really worried about it. So because of her worries we ended up going with their top quote to have surge protection and a new breaker / grounding done. I said we should get more estimates but with how worried she was I was basically without say. And again, to be fair, no doubt it needed done. They showed up on time and did the work. We were charged 3500 dollars for this work which I feel is astronomically high for what was done. I can almost guarantee this would’ve been professionally done elsewhere for maybe 1500. We were told one access panel would be added above our breaker panel and ended up with two smushed together and it looks kinda bad. They glued the one on the ceiling which is correct but used drywall screws to secure the other? The ground wires were ran pretty sloppy. I’m an automotive tech and wouldn’t let that slide on a car, let alone somebody’s house. They easily could’ve ran them more organized and utilized more brackets for a clean install. Hardly a professional look for a professional price. Long bolts used on the clamps for the water main looks tacky. Shorter ones do exist. Questionable things found from start to finish. Three stars because they were timely, friendly and communicative - and a lifetime warranty. Two stars off for definitively high pricing and doing something different than what was initially agreed on with the access panels as well as sloppiness with the work. I’m glad it’s done overall but for anything major in the future I’ll be sure to call around first and get second opinions. Would be nice to have the ground wiring ran better and if that can be done I’d be open to up this...
Read moreIf you have the misfortune of having the electric go out in one of your rooms or your whole house, it's okay. Because Logan from Sparky electric will fix you up quick. He is considerate, knowledgeable and fun to talk to. I explained what our current plans and future plans were he took it all in and gave us a solution that made me happy. He makes understanding why your electric went how and how it can be fixed simple to process. Great personality definitely someone you invite to family BBQ and he fit right in. Thank you again Sparky for connecting me and Logan great guy absolute asset to put company..* update, first they forgot to reconnect the outlet in upstairs bedroom which i called them and they sent a technician out to reconnect outlet and make it right, well I didn't need the vent fan in the kitchen until 2 days ago went to use it and it didn't work so I contacted them because their technician also forgot to reconnect it when they redid the wiring in kitchen, well the technician came and wants to charge me to fix what I already paid them to fix and than want to make estimates to replace electricity through out my whole house when I'm asking them to fix what I already paid them a lot of money to fix in first place. My advice is if you use these guys make damn sure you flip every switch and check every outlet because the only thing they seem to care about is the next estimate. He didn't even seem one bit concerned about the fact that their company was paid to fix the kitchen and failed to zero accountability so that is why my 5 star rating...
