no communication whatsoever and they dont follow any kind of protocol that the driver is made aware of. Dock 105, into the red door, sign says drivers not allowed to go beyond that point, someone will assist. There is a driver sign-in sheet on clipboard so I signed in. Under the clipboard a laminated sign stating to wait outside in truck for a phone call (you leave your number on sign-in sheet). No one was there, so after signing in and waiting a few minutes, I left thinking they'd call me. Other drivers had opened their trailer doors but I wasnt sure if they wanted me to break seal so I opted to just wait until they called me which never happened. Didnt appear that they were calling anyone, and the driver before me wlhonked and waved me in upon his leaving, so I had to make a judgment call to break seal and open doors and proceed as other trucks were starting to line up and I didnt want someone getting impatient and cutting my spot in the line to take the dock so I just went for it. I backed in and after about 15 minutes waiting someone flagged me down and instructed me to go a shipping office which was about 100' inside the building beyond the sign that forbids drivers from going beyond the point of entry. Wow okay, thats confusing I thought. I enter the shipping office, hand my paperwork and am told to remove the wooden blocks that secure the last pallets so he can unload me. I do that, and was left scratching my head wondering if hes goong to start now or do I need to go back and get paperwork or is he gonna do that later or who knows. I told the guard shack lady I had never been before but she couldnt tell me what I was supposed to do beyond going to dock 105. I waited for the red light on the dock but it never came on even as they were unloading, it just stayed green. Not only is it a safety precaution to lock the axle but it also is an important indicator that when it goes back to green, it lets the driver know unloading is complete and trailer is clear of any personnel. So drivers just gotta wait and guess when they might be done and occasionally get out and check to make sure, which means we have to stay On-Duty the entire time. This is a disgraceful operation and an abject failure by management... things could be so much better but no. Laziness and apathy trump standard protocol and efficiency. Many such cases in trucking... sad. Drivers are put in a situation where they have play the guessing game and for any wrong guess, they will likely be blamed for any delays that result. Drivers, stay...
