Great, well kept little fort off the Rout 1 highway, about 30-45 min drive from bath/brunswick. The coast leading up to the fort was nice, lots of places to stop, refuel or just window shop. The road leading to the fort is a bit steep and feels typical of back roads in wisscaset (bumpy & worn),parking was quick since no one else was there,i can imagine a busy day being stressful though. The fort itself was locked up till spring im assuming, the grounds are clean and have picnic tables & benches for resting. The area near the shore has stairs but they are stone slabs that could be rough on some visitors, the whole surrounding hill feels like a pyramid covered in grass (really rough on the knees if you walk to the bottom). Overall the visit was great, would reccomend to travelers looking for a short side adventure. (Will update when the fort itself is...

I'm torn about my rating of the fort. The fort is incredibly cool to visit. It's well worth the visit. The view is beautiful - perfect for photo ops. You can climb down to a tiny little "beach". The history is remarkable. The issue, and reason why my rating is so low is because the shear amount of dog waste. We saw a couple of locals allowing their dogs to do their free range pooping, without a clean-up in sight. It is so extreme heading to the picnic tables, that we couldn't walk two steps without having to try to miss piles (and failing). As the grass grows and hides the poop, I can't imagine how many kids are going to be sitting in/rolling in this potential hazard. I've lived in Maine my entire life and I've never seen an area with so...

One of my favorite places here in Edgecomb. I used to go here a lot as a kid. Great place to just hang out. Views along the water are great. There are picnic tables to hang out and eat. Had Breakfast here this morning. Unfortunately the Fort was closed and wasn't allowed to enter. I don't recall it being open either as a kid, but if you are with someone you can lift either other up and...

Cool fort to see from outside. Several information plaques to read. Good views of the water and plenty of picnic tables. Nobody there and fort was not open to go inside - door was locked. A bummer since online said open. It was also a Saturday so not sure how people can go inside these places. Worth a stop though since close to town
