Austin Community College: Elgin Campus — Local services in Elgin

I started at Austin Community College in Elgin TX right after high school after working hard to build up credits and prepare for college. I was genuinely excited to continue learning and had high hopes for my time there. While some professors were excellent and truly cared about teaching, my experience was unfortunately marred by a couple of instructors who let personal views overshadow the curriculum.

In one math class, instead of focusing on the subject matter, the professor regularly used class time to push political opinions. In another course, the professor whose background was in philosophy frequently inserted personal views related to sexuality and identity into lectures which had nothing to do with the content I signed up to learn.

I respectfully spoke up about the lack of focus and professionalism in both cases but nothing changed. My concerns were brushed aside and it ultimately affected my ability to succeed in those classes. I failed courses not because of the difficulty but because they strayed so far from what they were supposed to be.

I am sharing this review not out of bitterness but in the hope that ACC can hold its staff accountable and provide students with classrooms that stay focused respectful and true to the course descriptions. Students deserve an education not a lecture on...
