This is the best Food Lion in 20 miles - not only because of cleanliness, but the fact that it has self-checkout is a key factor, as well. As an Instacart shopper for 7+ years now and having shopped at ALL the Food Lions in my community, many many MANY times, I've yet to have a cashier that knows how to properly bag groceries, making the self-checkout option so important to me. Raw chicken with vegetables? Just one example. I cannot count the number of times I've had to rebag my customers groceries so I don't get penalized for delivering food to them in such an unsafe manner! It would be really great if Food Lion actually invested in training their cashiers/baggers appropriately AND did quality checks on them for it. Teaching is one thing, but making sure they follow those teachings is another. I get the nastiest looks when I literally go to a different, unoccupied, registers after I've checked out to rebag customers groceries. Like, how dare I rebag groceries!!! Really?! Train your employees on the importance of SAFETY and nothing will need to be rebagged! Oh, that, AND cramming as much as possible in one bag too. 🤦♀️ Frozen foods with dry items... the list goes on and on. BUT, THIS Food Lion in Elkton is the best because it is the cleanest of them all and I am able to check out and bag my customers groceries properly from the start because of self checkouts! I cringe when Instacart orders pop up for the other local Food Lion's that don't have self checkout because it is infuriating the lack of care and concern for customers safety and items being damaged from cramming things in. I literally avoid Food Lion shops as much as possible because of this and also because it takes me extra time to fix it all before delivering to my customers so I don't end up getting reported for poor handling, or making someone sick. Read moreGo here at least 3 times a week, most of the employees are wonderful and I have almost no complaints. However, I always do self checkout. There is a girl that works there watching the self checkout registers doing what I assume is theft prevention. Which I totally understand and doesn't matter a whole lot me I usually just go about my business and ring up my stuff, pay and leave. For some reason though every single time I'm in there and she is working she will literally come stand right behind me and watch over my shoulder the ENTIRE time. To the point she no longer even pays attention to anyone but me. First, second, even third time I paid mind to her. My mom needed a couple things from food lion so I drove her over. Once again, same thing. When we got in the car my mom pointed out how it was a little odd how 3/4 self checkout registers were being used but she came right over to us, acted like we were only ones in the store and watched my every move. Now, it isn't a huge deal because I don't steal, I have never been in trouble once in my entire life. Not even a ticket. If this was something she did to everyone, periodically checked on everyone using the self checkout, or just didn't come and watch only me the entire time I wouldn't even be leaving this post as I hardly if ever leave reviews. If I was the only one using self check out or had stolen before, I'd feel it's more understandable. Read moreMy sister and I visited this Food Lion while on our girls trip in Elkton. We come from Richmond where encountering good customer service is not always a success. The fellow shoppers were kind and the vibes were great....but what set the bar for this particular grocery store was our cashier named "Don". While we stood in line we watched Mr. Don speak to everyone with the upmost respect. We watched him connect with strangers through complimenting items that they were purchasing. When it came time for us to check out we asked him for help with an item in the case which appeared to be out of stock. Don did not hesitate to search high and low for a replacement item for us. The most refreshing part about our experience with Don was the sweet and genuine smile that NEVER left his face, not once, with EVERY SINGLE customer he serviced. The kindness and patience that this gentleman portrayed was so pleasant. We even walked back in to ask for his name because of the heart warming impression he left on us.
