I don't know what I'm more upset about, driving almost an hour to leave empty-handed or the fact that my son is let down, too. I've been trying to get him into playing Magic the Gathering since he has gotten older, and I wanted to get him into a card game I used to play instead of Pokémon. We've been watching YouTube videos the last couple of weeks trying to teach him the basics, and I was going to get us everything we needed to get started playing tonight. I brought a few Pokémon cards in hoping to trade some for store credit to save some money because I knew it would probably be a couple hundred dollars to get some precon decks, boosters, dice, mats, sleeves, and anything else we could think of. If they made a trade or not, I wasn't leaving empty handed, I just drove 45 minutes to get there. It's not the fact that they only wanted one card after barely looking at anything I had. It was the fact that no one behind the counter could be bothered to answer a question or offer assistance to help sell me something or guide me in the right direction on deck selection or anything. I get wizard is pushing commander , but they could have helped me figure something out instead of assuming I didn't want to spend money. After standing there and not getting anywhere, I asked to have my store credit written down, and buddy couldn't even be bothered to get a cue card to write my info down. I finally told them to keep the card I was trading and told my son we were leaving. I didn't even ask for the card back because I was really irritated at this point. After leaving, I believe they realized how upset I was, and someone did try to come outside and wave me down as I was driving away. I was not going to stop and talk because at this point, I had nothing nice to say. I'm not mad at anyone, really. I'm just disappointed about the whole experience. I used to love comic book stores when I was a kid. Everyone is always informative and enthusiastic about getting people into the game, and I was excited for my son to get the same feeling I used to get and we couldn't even get a smile, let alone some good information out of anyone. I don't like doing bad reviews. It's not worth my time, but when my kids get let down and their feelings are hurt, I gotta say something. On a positive note, though, the establishment did seem nice with a lot of room to play games. When I finally find a decent store to get Magic merch, we unfortunately won't be coming...
Read moreI try to support local businesses as much as possible. Since moving to the area a year ago, I've spent a reasonable amount of money at Comicquest, and generally been happy with the selection and service. After my last purchase, their card processor sent me a $5 credit for the store, so today I went in to see what I could find to use it on. I picked up an action figure marked $14.99 and headed to the register. It was manned by a befuddled and frankly a bit paranoid older man who told me he couldn't help me and I'd have to wait for manager Chris to return from outside. He clearly had never been trained to run the register or deal with customers. While I waited, he repeatedly questioned me about the coupon and where I got it, and if I had gone through some arcane process which he clearly had no grasp of and couldn't explain - and acted suspicious of me when I told him (several times) that it was emailed to me. Finally Chris returned and proceeded to ring up the $14.99 action figure at $64! I pointed out the VERY legible $14.99 price tag to him, and the old man started anxiously saying that that wasn't one of their price tags (it certainly was, I had thumbed through 14 other things with exactly the same tags on them before grabbing the one I wanted), asking where I got the figure, and Chris pointed out a tiny round tag on the bottom of the figure that said $59 and was barely legible and almost the same shade as the box it was attached to. Sorry folks - This was my last time coming to the store. Your odd and borderline rude employee and the fact that the manager didn't make any effort to stop his rantings or honor the price affixed to the product killed any chance of me ever doing business with Comicquest in the future. I'll keep shopping at Book Broker, Secret Headquarters and other local shops, and what I can't find there I'll order online. There's nothing in CQ that I can't find for the same price (and in many cases less) online or elsewhere - if you don't care about my experience in your shop as a customer, there's no reason for me to...
Read moreI have been going here for over twenty years now and I have seen the ups and downs of the store. I would like to trade almost my entire collection here but they are shady about only wanting to accept old vintage books and not new stuff that is over flowing my home that I would get rid of along with older, vintage books. If they would take my newer stuff I would trade old stuff that has high value. The store is ok for the most part but for someone that has been going here for twenty plus years and yet won’t do a solid and help me out by trading my new and old comics hurts me greatly. I do feel like this store is way better than the one in Owensboro by far and knowing both owners real well I can say that I have great respect for the one in Evansville. I will say though you want to get vintage books comic quest you need to be able to take all the books on trade not just a few vintage books I have heard to many people complain about the way you guys trade! Also I went in there and asked a question to the worker at the register on 2-29-20 and he said he didn’t know the answer to my question about a comic nor did he even try to look anything up for me. I also hate that they will not price match certain books or comics to some retail as some things in the store is very overpriced. I miss the good old days when Lelani was running the store you got help and so much more. Not only that but if I want comics and graphic novels cheaper now there are comic book stores with apps and online service to where you can order comics and other things two weeks ahead of time and when it gets released you get the items cheaper than cover price to make up for shipping cost and delivered to my door on the day the comics are set to release. If they want my business again then they will accept trade ins no matter weather they are vintage or newer books. Lastly Amazon sells graphic novels way cheaper than comic book stores now. It just taught me I can’t be a slave to the comic book stores anymore when it comes to...
