A few months back my son and a group of friends were shopping at Smith and Edward's for Dance clothes for the Weber High dance. One of the girls that were in the group grabbed a shirt and put it up her own as if she was going to steal the shirt, there were 3 girls and 3 boys. The boys were in the boys clothing and girls in girls clothing. The young girl made a right choice and did not take the shirt and set it down in another department. The boys checked out and girls were with them, and they all left in my sons truck as they rode together. A few hours later they were all called to come talk to a police officer as they seen this action She had made on camera "putting the shirt up hers" and they left it at that as she stole the shirt. Then when they went back the girl stated she didn't take the shirt but didn't tell them where she left said shirt. They pulled cameras and found it inside the store.
Well because the other kids including my son were all there and they checked out and together and got in my sons Truck and the girl didn't say where she placed the shirt, Smith and Edward's management decided that they ALL were to be banned and if returned will get a trespassing ticket.
I emailed management and stated I feel it was not right and that the boys were not involved at all and furthermore nothing was stolen and the girl made the right decision not to steal. The said person I spoke with in email stated he repulled the cameras and no my son had no idea that she had done this and in fact nobody may have even known.
Fast forward to present day today. My son and his friends all wanted to wear shirts to a truck show. Okay I know he was told not to return and he should have not but they walked in grabbed one shirt, walked straight to checkout bought it and left. And then a few hours later a sheriff calls, and states they want to press charges for trespassing. Said sheriff did not feel it was necessary to site the kids because one, no problems and two there was no merchandise ever taken in the first place. And the kids were in the store as the cameras show less than 6 minutes total.
The officer did not cite them but he still has to make a report and he has to send this to juvenile court. And if they decide to cite him they will have us come to court. I will gladly go to court but be better Smith and Edward's, the young girl had bad intentions and decided to do the right thing before following through. Nothing was taken and no confrontation from any of the kids or parents. Is this how to run a long time business? Pushing away regular customers?
Again I know he should have never went back without knowing it was okay, but should he have something like this on his record?
Let's do...
Read moreUp till yesterday I would have given a 5 star rating. I have been dealing with Smith and Edwards for years. I use to help their guys out to the DRMO auctions at the Tooele, UT auctions30 and 40 years ago. Then yesterday I wanted to introduce my wife to the store in Ogden and stopped to do a little shopping for about an hour. Time to check out. Register 5 has the light on to indicate they are open. There is a cashier there, another indication that line is open. She is checking out one customer and there was another customer behind that one. I get in line. Patiently wait. Now it is my turn to be checked out. Flips the light off and tells me she is closed. I look at the other lines which now each have 4 or 5 people and I am expected to just go wait again, with no guarantee that that cashier won't do the same. I told her, "you were open when I got in line and you allow me to stand in your line and wait till my turn then close." I wanted to leave the items we were trying to buy and let Smith and Edwards spend the money restocking since they don't want to spend the money checking a customer out and selling product. Number one goal in business is making money but apparently not at Smith and Edwards. When I was a kid I worked in retail. My employer always told me, no service is better than bad service." If your closed the customers will return another time. If you give them bad service they will never return. I would like Craig Smith to tell me, is what happened to me good service or bad service? My wife really wanted the stuff she had picked out and out of respect for her I had to go stand in the next line over and wait again. Merely to watch the old lady at register 5 with her smirk on her face just to add salt to the wound. Because I love my wife, if she makes me go I would shop there again for her but I would love to see the dam place go out of business. I am just one customer, when you get enough nickels and dimes you eventually have a dollar. Maybe cashier #5 will piss off someone else today and...
