This company's name is a bit misleading; there is nothing "custom" about their work. I sent a steering wheel to them to be refurbished and told them to polish the spokes to remove the surface rust and wrap the wheel in leather. I was given an estimate, and for he work I requested, it seemed fair.
When the wheel came back, I was furious. Even though I was told by two different people that they would clean up the metal, the rust remained, and though the leather work was beautiful, to me the assembly was useless. It would not be re-installed in my truck the way it looked.
When I called to complain, I was told that they never do metal work, and said that all they would do would be to rub some naval jelly on the metal and call it good. Why was I told they could clean up all the rust? Who knows. What a waste of $270.
Three cut bolts to disassemble the hub and two hours of polishing with a Dremel and my wheel now looks presentable. I'll only have to find the specialty hardware to re-assemble it, and all will be good.
In a side note, they apparently do not do wood work as advertised. The man running the shop informed me that they do water transfer printing (hydrographics). That's a far cry from real wood, especially with a price approaching $600! A new, OEM woodgrain and leather chromed wheel is barely more than...
Read moreI had a steering wheel from a 1986 Firebird I had planned on using in my 1992 Firebird, but it was completely trashed. I thought about recovering it myself, but it was too far gone and I wanted a factory look. I stumbled on Craft Customs on a Google search, and after looking over their website, gave them a call. They were super friendly, up front with pricing, and knew exactly what I was sending them to be worked on. They were great with communication about how long the work would take, and were honest about the fact they were a little behind. The end result was totally worth the extra time, and it was only 3 weeks start to finish. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing custom interior work, especially a steering wheel. It looks better than factory and I couldn't be happier. Thank...
Read moreWow, just wow.
Who could believe that a 54 year old steering wheel could look so good?. My car, a 1968/9 Triumph TR6, has a first year only steering wheel, not common or easy to find in restorable condition. I was a bit nervous and skeptical at first sending it off, but their website has several videos that show all that they do, and I felt very at ease. Craft Customs did a leather recovering and reblacked the spokes too. They can do several varieties of stitching and I selected the double baste stitch because the original baseball had seemed a bit weak. The wheel came out well perfect. Money well spent. My wheel is soooo nice.
Outstanding customer service. I cannot say any words other than I recommend Craft Customs very highly. They performed an extraordinary restoration on my...
