I am very disappointed and surprised by my extremely negative experience with FAS today. After repeatedly seeing a neighbor dog kept outside for several hours at a time in the cold with no shelter visible, I called and asked for an officer to make a welfare check and talk to the owners about shelter and water requirements. An office arrived shortly to my house, saying that someone had complained about my dogs. I told him I was the one who called, actually. He was visibly annoyed and said "why did you give your own address?" I said I hadn't, and told him my address. He muttered something about city planners as wIent over to the correct house. He returned in a couple of minutes to the dog in question lives inside and only goes outside to potty. He said since the dog doesn't "live outside" the owner is not required to provide shelter. I told him that the dog is regularly left outside for lengthy periods of time. He interupted "well how often do your dogs go to the bathroom?" and something about filing "false complaints". The interaction just went downhill from there. It was ridiculous. I said only wanted the dog checked on and the owners educated; I can't stand to see some poor dog outside in 20 degree weather freezing and barking to get inside. The officer interjected then "oh so it's the barking that bothers you!", which is not at all what I was saying. He interrupted me several times; he was aggressive and obviously irritated with me far more than he was concerned for the welfare of the dog. Maybe because it was close to 5:00, I don't know. I was very clear when I made the call that I believed the owners simply needed educated, and that it was better coming from an FAS officer than for me to go knock on the door. This encounter has left me shocked, frankly and feeling very negative about Fayetteville Animal Services. I only hope that the dogs owners -who know full well they leave their dog out for hours at a time in the cold -will be more conscientious...
Read moreTried to do the right thing and save a cat, I was met with nothing but resistance after contacting animal services. It seemed to me that the person I was speaking with, Shannon I think, was looking for any excuse not to help me with this animal. Also to my understanding Animal Servises provides an animal control officer to come pick up the animal but in my case I was told I would have to bring the cat in and was sternly told to bring my ID like I had done something wrong. I also asked for some kind of information for proper procedure and a services provided by Fayetteville Animal Servises so that i would be knowledgeable when rescuing animals in the future. They were unable to provide any Information. Then when I dropped the cat off I received a lecture about how I "probably killed this cat" because I brought it in. She said that it most likely will be euthanized for being too wild or it probably has FIV. As if I already didn't feel bad enough for killing this poor cat which no one but me seems to care about, the director calls to tell me that I'm a liar multiple times. She had found a post that was made to find the owners and thought I wasn't telling the truth about where the animal came from. She called me a LIAR and when I explained to her how she had made a mistake and to not call me a liar she replied with "whatever" and briefly hung up on me. Completely unprofessional! I can not believe the way I was treated and talked to for trying to do the right thing and help. In my opinion the director is completely out of line and needs to apologize and some kind of disciplinnery action should be taken to ensure this type of mistreatment won't...
Read moreI understand and respect that there are rules all employees have to follow at all jobs but I KNOW THERE IS NO RULE THAT ASKS YOU TO BE RUDE TO PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO HELP LOST ANIMALS!!!
The person working at the front desk/responsible for answering calls on Dec 26,2024 should not be working anywhere near vulnerable animals!!!
We found a lost dog on Dec 23 evening and tried our best to surrender it to a shelter/police but got no help as they were already out for Christmas. After hours of calling around and facebook posts - we finally found a foster and decided to leave him there until someone responded to my facebook post that they found the same dog again. Me and my friends rushed to find him on the streets again and my friends took it to the shelter. At the shelter they made my friend feel like we were trying to fabricate a story and give them a dog. I called in and the person at the front desk was rude and told me that “my story” was suspicious???! If you are working at a shelter where you are literally supposed to help lost dogs - atleast have the basic decency to be nice to other people who are trying to help even tho you cant. I have evidence of all my facebook posts and comments and call history of how I tried to help when I could have just been as stone hearted as the front desk lady who basically was trying to tell me that since we found the dog its my problem and not hers.
I have adopted from this shelter before and still have that dog with me so I will be forever thankful for the shelter!!! However, the front desk/assistant lady needs to go or needs to learn some lessons on...
