It’s not often that I write reviews but felt like I needed to after our experience at frontier sand dune tours. I have been to the dunes before and have rented a ATV to tour the dunes on my own, however this time when visiting Florence I had my boys with me, ages 15 and 12. I thought it would be a good idea to have a tour so my kids could get the full enjoyment of how beautiful the scenery really was and thought going with someone who was familiar with the dunes would be the safest. I have to admit I am a nervous person. I stated this very early before our tour. The guide ( Scott) didn’t really seem like he had an interest in how I was feeling. Basically as soon as we started I could feel my nervousness rising but thought I had to put trust in the guide. I was surprised at how quick he was to go full throdal and take some very insane climbes up huge dunes ,when we were all very nervous about the ride. I continued to try and stay calm and have faith. But when we came up to a very high dune and my 12 year old states he was too nervous and didn’t want to go down the steep hill, It was then I started to regret my choice I riding the dunes. The driver said to my son basically to suck it up and he continued down the very steep hill. The entire time I basically thought I was going to die and was nervous for my children. My 15 year old son who normally is a thrill seeker did not say one word during the entire ride. There was a point where I told the driver to stop because I was so uncomfortable with the ride. At this time I would have appreciated it if he went a little slower and didn’t make such steep climbes, But adter this it felt like he went even more risky with his driving. I also was nervous about the lakes out there as I have been told they are very unpredictable but he still went uncomfortably close to them. I get that this experience is supposed to be a fast and exhilarating ride but I think it’s important to take note on how your passengers are feeling and maybe give them a heads up on how insane the ride will be. In the end my kids said they did like it and had fun. The front staff was polite and they accommodated us quickly. I just wish our driver was a bit more considerate of our feelings. Would have made for a better experience. I can’t say I would recommend this company...
Read moreMy wife and i drove down to spend a few hours on the dunes from Seaside Or. for our 22nd anniversary. It started over the phone and i spoke to CJ. Great personality, very knowledgeable and welcoming. He put a few of my concerns to rest. After a 4 hr trip they were all just amazing. CJ took my wife on a quick trip around the parking lot as she was very unsure if she could do a Quad wheeler. 10 mins of training and she less afraid and very appreciative, but still wanted me to drive. I am a big guy and felt a bit cramped in the 2 seater. So CJ took control and put us in the 4 seater (RAZOR) at a discounted price. They had a new person at the counter that was also very outgoing and being a rider herself knew the language. Some places are worried about time. What precise minute are you leaving, what time are you due back, 2 minutes late and you owe for an extra 5 hrs (exaggeration, but you get my point). These people are not. Again very accommodating. They are more concerned about your safety 1st, you having an incredible time and making great memories, and oh yeah please bring it back the same as you took it out. Customer service is huge for me. They went so far over the top. They made us feel like, old friends, or like family. That is how customer service is supposed to be. My extended family stays at Depot Bay a lot and now we have a new play ground... Highly recommended. And thank you all!!
I am still trying to remember all the names and will add them as i get them as you all deserve a shout out. :) ps - thanks for the restaurant suggestion - great...

A friend suggested this as a place to visit during our trip to the Oregon coast. He had seen it on some YouTube videos and was convinced this was something we had to see. Florence is a lovely little town. The dunes are just a few miles from it. Upon our arrival, we found the staff really friendly and very helpful. They were quite engaging and patient with all of our questions being from Montana and very new to this environment.
During our brief wait, we met the owner, Chuck, who was more than gracious and turned us on to some great restaurants and attractions in the area. The ride on the sand rail was nothing short of spectacular! The driver was great fun and very knowledgeable. I was a little scared at first, so he took it easy on me. When I got settled in, I told him to show me a good time, and that he did! We were all blown away at how much fun we had on this little "side trip." We talked about it for days.
It was really fun to see people of all ages enjoying this place. When I showed the video I shot to my grandparents, parents, brothers, nieces and nephews, they all wished they had been there. The dunes and the ocean views are unlike anything I have ever seen in my life. I will never go back to Oregon without visiting Sand Dunes Frontier. They also have a nice little RV park, so we have decided that the next time we go that we'll camp here for a couple of days as a destination.
On a side note, I rarely bother to go online to recommend places. This place was...
