My wife and I played this course for the first time today. The course was nice for the money. However our experience was not pleasant. There were two foursomes in front of us causing the round to go slow. Which wasn't a problem for us. My wife is newer to the game and this gave me time to help her line up her shots and her posture and suggest what clubs to hit. We were not playing slow, in fact we had to wait on each tee box 3-4 minutes for the group in front of us to clear out. Halfway through the front nine the marshall came by and said the group behind us called and complained that i was giving my wife instruction and that we were "holding everybody up" I told him we couldn't play any faster than the group in front of us and we were having to wait 3-4 minutes on each tee as well. So it wasn't us that was holding the group up. Apparently this wasn't satisfactory enough for him and he told me to try and stay up with the group in front of us and they had a driving range if I needed to give instruction and to pick up her ball and move on if we had people waiting on us. I found these responses to be rude and unacceptable especially after i explained the situation. We payed our money the same as everyone else and I feel as if we were treated unfairly. This incident ruined what was supposed to be a nice day out with my wife and we will not be visiting this...
Read moreAlways go here to play rounds on our trip down to area beaches few times a year. Staff always friendly and very helpful customer service. Overall, the course had a mix of positives and areas needing improvement.
Golf Carts: The carts were in great shape and featured a helpful automatic hill-hold function. However, they lacked GPS, which would a nice addition.
Cart Paths: The cart paths are starting to show their age and are in need of repair in many areas..
Tee Boxes: These were well maintained and in good condition.
Ball Washers: Unfortunately, ball washers were almost non-existent. The two or three that were available were dry, broken and or in very poor condition looking unused in weeks.
Greens: This was the biggest disappointment. The greens were in very poor shape—hard in some areas, bumpy and fuzzy in others. Some sections looked mashed flat. There was no consistency, which made putting extremely difficult as the ball would hop unpredictably.
Fairways: These were in good condition and enjoyable to play from.
Fringes: Also in good condition with no major issues.
Sand Traps: These were a highlight—well maintained and in excellent condition.
With some attention to the greens, cart paths, and ball washers, this course has potential to be a much more...
Read moreI came to Glen Lakes as a spectator during a vacation visit with my family to see if golf might be something I’d enjoy. Unfortunately, the experience left a lot to be desired.
Right off the bat, I was charged a pretty steep $40 spectator fee — understandable due to the second cart — but the attitude from the front desk staff was unnecessary. No one informed us we’d be paired with two other players, which was surprising. Luckily, they were kind and kept pace with my father.
Despite waiting at nearly every hole behind a slower 2-player group, a course marshal pulled up about 6 holes in and rudely told us we were “holding up three groups” and needed to speed up. We never received an apology or clarification — just attitude and constant tailing from the marshal for the rest of the round. It felt more like being policed than welcomed.
We later stopped by the clubhouse to grab some water and a quick bite (it was extremely hot out), and although the bartender/server was very friendly, we waited around 15 minutes for food.
All in all, Glen Lakes did not offer the kind of environment that makes someone feel excited about golf — especially someone new to it. Between the poor communication, unwelcoming tone from staff, and being unfairly blamed for pace issues, I won’t...
