I’ve been here several times and my adult kids and I spent Father’s Day together with a nice round of disc golf.
We chose Shady Oaks for the quality course as well as the shade…heck, it’s in the name.
We spent some time in the nice little store located there. Cold drinks, snacks, and more discs than you normally see all in one place. Difficult to make a decision with so many to choose from!
I bought a new disc (I didn’t really need one) and met some nice people out on the course - disc golfers are always cool.
It’s not a treacherous course at all. It’s well maintained and more clearly marked than SO many courses I’ve wandered around on looking for the next hole.
The oak trees are plentiful - a common disc golf hazard in California - and the scenery is a nice addition to the play and the company.
Highly recommend both the course and hitting up the store before and after golfing.
I did try to get a refund for the new disc I had just bought considering it did not improve my game at all, but that...
Read moreWell if you don't know by now, this is one of the cathedrals of disc golf. And it's a great and challenging course with a rich history. 18 holes guaranteed to challenge any disc golfer of any skill level. But, I wouldn't recommend it for your first trip out unless you are playing with someone who can give you a rundown about the proper conduct on the course. There's a chill little pro-shop on site where you can shop a great selection of discs and also drinks and ice cream. The course is well maintained. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is despite the locals pouring their heart into it, the course is 'loved to death'. There is constant player traffic and the grounds reflect it, I don't know what the solution is but it would be great to see the grounds to get a...
Read moreI Love this course! Its my favorite. They have a small shop with snacks, discs and restrooms. Friendly people. Not a beginner friendly course, you need to go to Santa Anita or Carmichael if you are just learning.....you dont want to hold up the course and have players waiting on you. Shady yes and a home for all the squirrels and their babies.
Once in a while, a big tree has fallen or grass getting a little tall making it somewhat hard to find a disc but it does eventually get taken care of.
Us players will get irriratable to kids riding bikes but more so people strolling on a slow walk wandering aimlessly on one of the holes while players on the tee pad have to wait to throw and trying not to yell, "get out of the way or your going to get hit!" The squirrels...
