During my very first experience with this place I had given them my pet turtle that I had since she was a hatchling (about 3 days old) to be rehome. She was purchased from a turtle store in Florida and not found.
I had called a few places and couldn't find somewhere to rehome her. I then called Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control. The person assured me they help with rehoming reptiles of her species, red-eared slider. When I brought her to their location I again asked before giving her to them. They again told me she would be rehome and they wouldn't euthanize her.
She was around 5 years old and had many years left to live, since her species has a long life span. I wanted her to be able to live a long life, and wanted her to find someone who could care for her for the rest of it.
I overheard some woman asking if her dogs had been adopted out yet. I inquired and found out we can call to check their status. When I called to see if they found a home or sanctuary for my turtle, Bonnie, they told me they didn't rehome them and had euthanized her.
I spoke with more than one person, and even spoke to them before I brought her there. They lied to me and murdered my turtle. She wasn't a swamp turtle with disease. She was bred in Florida, and hand raised by me since she was a hatchling. I should've just broke the law and released her in the wildlife preserve. I was consistently lied to by people who say they like animals.
God didn't say murder everything and lie. For being in the City of a Thousand Churches then the people who work here should know "thou shall not lie!"
[Attached is a picture of her that I took the day I brought her there. The last time I saw her before Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control murdered her after lying to me and promising me she'd be rehomed!]
Rest in Peace Bonnie...
Read moreThis place is a joke. My 15 year old dog got out for the first time ever on a Friday and was stuck there allllll weekend…. Insane that we assume you have ppl there caring for our pets but we can’t come get them till Monday… On top of that she has pretty bag allergies and went without her meds for those three days so when I came to get her on Monday morning I was told I would be served in court if I didn’t take her to the vet…… when the meds I have at home take care of her skin they wanted me to spend $300 to be seen or I would go to court. Insane. To TOP that all off. The process for getting my sweet Zoe out was the worst customer service I’ve ever recieved, I was third in line behind two ppl turning in stray cats. Once begginning the process of claiming my girl a woman with a lost dog walked in and let it loose in the lobby. A dog covered in blood. Instead of getting the dog contained and giving me my dog. They helped said woman who walked past at least seven ppl in line behind me. And I got put to the side. As I watched the line move I realized I am no longer in line. And not being helped. I waited an hour to get my dog. My senior dog. 15 years old. Never gotten out and never been to this awful place. After getting a call today to check that I went to the vet I asked what the reason or point was for this whole ordeal (knowing full well it’s how they make money off ppl who take care of there dogs) I was told she has no clue. It’s just her job to get us to court. What a joke fest. Yeah they may SELL you dogs. But they are hungry for your money. Go somewhere else. Any other shelter. These ppl are a joke and do not care about your pets. They...
Read moreBe aware, this shelter is quick to euthanize animals, including beloved pets. We had a sweet, loving well-behaved 2-year old puppy we named Sunny that we adopted from this shelter 15 months ago. We had two other dogs, an older 13-year old female husky and a 4-year old male American Bulldog. The husky was not tolerant of Sunny’s puppy energy and behavior - the two girls did not get along well, but the husky spent most of her time in our upstairs bedroom, while Sunny loved nothing more than running around in our fenced backyard. But Sunny and our bulldog adored each other - they played together, they slept together, they shared toys and chew bones. Sunny was constantly taking her toys over to share with our bulldog. Sunny was not food possessive, was not toy or treat possessive, and was always well behaved with all other dogs, people and children we met on the many hikes I took her on at our neighborhood park. She was wonderful and just wanted to please. Last week Sunny got into an unexpected altercation with the husky and bit her ear. My wife decided against my wishes to return her to the shelter. They told her they would do some additional training and evaluation and work to find her a good home without an older dog in it. They did none of this. They decided Sunny had bit another dog, with no thought for the situation surrounding the action and without asking for additional background and quickly euthanized one of the sweetest pups you could ever have the treasure of gracing your life. A ray of sunshine is now gone forever due to this...
