Our attempt to adopt a dog through here was an absolute nightmare. On Monday we found a dog through North Animal Care and fell in love with her. Immediately we wanted to adopt her but were told she was a lost pet so we had to wait until Tuesday. We went up there right when they opened on Tuesday, met her, and fell in love. They told us that PetsMart has first dibs on dogs, and picked her and the only way we could adopt her now would be waiting until Friday when she goes to PetsMart. We asked if there was anything else that we could do and they told us no. We communicated with PetsMart multiple times about the dog and were repeatedly told that the ONLY thing we could do was wait until Friday and be first in line for the dog as it is first come first served. We left our information and asked to be notified if anything changed. So, we eagerly showed up and hour before the store even opened and waited outside, only to be blindsided by an employee who casually mentioned that the dog had been adopted the day before. We NEVER got any phone call that the dog was going to be arriving a day early. No one ever even mentioned that this could even be a possibility. Both North Animal Care and PetsMart had her arrival day as Friday. The lack of communication and misinformation we were given was so frustrating. I’m giving 2 stars because the staff at North Animal Care was extremely nice and felt bad for us that they were binded by a contract basically. There just has to be a better system for PetsMart dogs. This was such a...

*Update: The puppy has Parvo! They offered to let me surrender her to be euthanized because I know they aren’t sinking in over $1k I just incurred in vet bills not including my cats that got sick! Let alone my 3 devastated children! Also, Parvo is extremely contagious so do not adopt without protecting you and your pet!

Original post: I just adopted a 3 month old puppy (animal ID 57241249) on 11/19/24. So days ago. She was spayed and we picked her up. Since she’s been home, she began coughing and vomiting. Coughing every few minutes at times even.

I have repeatedly tried to get ahold of someone at the shelter for two days. You can only call the call center and have them relay a request for an email, a call MAYBE. I have two confirmation numbers and names as proof I have been calling. Linda 24-00744021 on 11/26/24 and Rosemary 24-741158 on 11/25/24.

I now have 2 of my cats coughing as well. We also noticed she has fleas which did not come from our home as we have indoor cats only. We noticed them the first day.

This shelter is adopting out sick animals KNOWINGLY and not only that but now my other pets have to go to a vet which is not cheap. I will be writing to the city and state over safety concerns of this facility.

At first I had a great outlook, now I would never recommend this facility. Sadly it’s the animals that suffer. I have yet to hear a word. My poor children are heartbroken for their...

🚨 THE HASLET SHELTER LIED ABOUT MY DOG DAKOTA — BECAUSE I’M HOMELESS AND AN ACTIVIST 🚨

The Haslet shelter told me my dog, Dakota, had already been euthanized. I was devastated. But now I’ve found a photo taken at their shelter — and it’s HIM. He’s alive.

They didn’t make a mistake. They lied. Why? Because I’m homeless — and because I speak out about how shelters treat animals. They decided I don’t deserve to have my own dog back, so they tried to erase him.

Dakota is not a stray. He is microchipped, registered, and loved. He’s my family. Being homeless or being an activist doesn’t mean I’m not a good owner — and it doesn’t give them the right to lie about killing my dog or to hide him from me.

This has to stop. If they can do this to me, they can do it to anyone. How many other families have been told their pet was ā€œgoneā€ when they were still alive?

PLEASE HELP:

Call the Haslet shelter and demand they release Dakota to me.

Share this post everywhere — tag rescues, animal advocates, and local news.

Help me hold them accountable.

Dakota deserves to live. I deserve the truth. And the public deserves to know what this shelter is doing.

Being homeless is not a crime — being an activist is not a crime — but lying about someone’s...
