The golf course is great. It’s a gem of a city-owned public course and hard to find better. Fun layout, conditions are very good. Prices are fair. If it was based solely on that - 5 stars. Too many times myself and many friends and folks in the area have had very negative experiences with the pro shop staff. It’s been well-documented on Twitter, on golf message boards - it’s known to many now to have this reputation. For example - 2:00 and after you can only play 9 as “carts have to be in by 5:00 no exceptions”. So I suggested we walk so we can play till sunset and they don’t have to wait on a cart. “You have to be off the golf course regardless at 5pm so that doesn’t matter either”. And when you putt out on your 9th hole, expect the pro shop guy to come hawk you on the last hole with his hands on his hips. The course is empty. It’s daylight for another 90min. So we decided whatever, we’ll just get a beer and putt on the practice green for fun. Nope, the Bar & Grill closed at 4:00. Pro Shop guy said “can’t sell you anything don’t wanna mess anything up”. Such an example of unmotivated/anti-customer employees that scoff at anyone besides the regular senior crowd. Heaven forbid some young professionals in FW want to come and support their local municipal course. Very sorry to have inconvenienced you guys.

Read moreI’ve been a huge fan of this course for years and was greatly disappointed when they lost the greens last season. With that being said, I was absolutely SHOCKED when I checked in last Sunday to find that the rates had increased so drastically.
The appeal of Rockwood is that it wasn’t overpriced like so many other courses and offered consistent conditions. On Sunday, I paid over $50 to WALK only to find the course was in comparatively the worst condition I’ve seen it in, ever. Although playable, the greens were bumpy and inconsistent (never had that before) and the course is a lot less green than other area courses. If the course is struggling to come back already, it’s likely to deteriorate rapidly once the summer heat kicks in. Sad. Very sad.
That, coupled with an unnecessarily slow pace of play (the starter was putting out singles between 4 somes) on a Sunday, I don’t think I’ll be back.
For the same rate, I can ride at any Dallas Municipal course or play Lake Arlington, or even Waterchase (much better track) for about the same rate. Whitestone, Champions Circle… there are just too many other options.
I know maintenance cost money, but municipal courses are supposed to be the most affordable to encourage more people to play the game and get...
Read moreRockwood is a really good golf course. This is one of the best public golf courses in the metroplex and I would always recommend that you come play it to enjoy the layout and immaculate conditions. But, here is the reason why I suggest you don’t come here to play. If you don’t enjoy 5+ hour rounds with staff that doesn’t care about pace of play, then I suggest you do not come here. We have had 3 to 4 groups on every hole and multiple groups have called into the pro shop. I just spoke to one pro shop staff member and he said he is the only person here. Are you kidding me? On the busiest and nicest day, you only have one staff member working, that is absolutely absurd! No one holds anybody accountable and asks any of the groups to pick up and play faster. On today’s round, they have a matchplay that is going on and it is holding up the entire golf course. Why would you put a matchplay event out in the morning of a really busy Saturday? This tells me that there is poor planning and poor leader ship that is operating the golf courses in Fort Worth. This is the third round in a row that I have come here and it has been a...
