Chimney Rock is a very noticeable landmark, which looks exactly like a chimney. It looks like it is right there, but it’s not. The climb was described as: ‘The Chimney Rock Trail is perhaps the best short path, (3.5 miles RT), in the national park, as it is relatively short, not too steep, provides the shortest hike to a high elevation viewpoint. Elevation change is 580 feet. What I liked the best was the evenly spaced strata, carved as if each layer had been carefully measured for evenness in height and width and separation from the others. We were glad to read the description before starting the trail, as the climb would have been beyond our abilities.
