RV DRIVERS: Stayed here for 1 night in February. The gift shop/museum were closed when we arrived (5:30 PM) due to the winter storm and the park being closed. Thank goodness one of the electric boxes was unlocked so we had power for the night. If you plan on using electric call ahead of time and ask them to unlock a box! Southern entrance to park is right there! Pay $20 to enter and spend the day. We left the RV parked until about noon at the site and once the gift shop opened up we went in and paid. The gift shop closed early the night before and didn’t open until about 11 the next day! The lady inside was flustered when we paid and said she tried to knock on our door and she didnt know what was going on...I explained about them closing early and opening late, that I found them on harvest, and that we even called hours before we arrived to let them know we were coming. She didnt seemed thrilled to have us but we still had power for the night so whatever. Only negative is the service here. We would stay again if we had to and show up in the early part of day before they shut down. Gravel lot, pretty level, quiet. Wonderful restaurants about...
Read moreI entered the facility to promptly run into the infamous female John Denver. She asked if I was planning to enter the petrified forest. I proceeded to tell her about my hike into the petrified forest the day before and stated I am not sure that I would enter into the desert again. She promptly cut off my story time and told me the petrified forest would be closing soon somewhat rudely. I then attempted to inquire about the broken down vehicles in the parking lot with flat tires. She was very abrupt with me but basically told me not to worry about them it is hot in the desert. Oooooo k. I felt rushed while I was trying to shop come to find out John Denver was closing up shop. I gave Johnny her free sample of Petrified wood back and headed to the shop across the street to further receive extremely poor customer service which was free. I did manage to get out of the area with all my tires intact. I would recommend Jim Grey's Petrified Wood Co. In Holbrook about 18 miles away. Prices are reasonable, they have a variety of merchandise and the folks made me...
Read morePulled in here just after nightfall, about 7 PM. It was dark and I wasn't sure where parking was allowed. I pulled to the shoulder near a permanent trailer in the Hope's of speaking to someone who lived there, or at least a fellow camper. Suddenly a woman burst from the trailer shouting "YOU CAN'T PARK THERE! YOU CAN'T PARK THERE!" over and over again. I attempted to tell her that I wasn't planning to stay where I was, and just needed to know where would be alright to park, but she couldn't hear me over her own screaming, and just continued. I can appreciate that it was after hours, and she likely didn't want to be bothered with customers, but if it really bothers her that much, maybe just don't offer the service. If you are going to continue to offer camping on your property, and work in hospitality and retail you should probably temper the way you talk to your guests a little more than not at all. Needless to say after this bizarre interaction I didn't feel comfortable...
