RV DRIVERS: Stayed here for 1 night in February. The gift shop/museum were closed when we arrived (5:30 PM) due to the winter storm and the park being closed. Thank goodness one of the electric boxes was unlocked so we had power for the night. If you plan on using electric call ahead of time and ask them to unlock a box! Southern entrance to park is right there! Pay $20 to enter and spend the day. We left the RV parked until about noon at the site and once the gift shop opened up we went in and paid. The gift shop closed early the night before and didn’t open until about 11 the next day! The lady inside was flustered when we paid and said she tried to knock on our door and she didnt know what was going on...I explained about them closing early and opening late, that I found them on harvest, and that we even called hours before we arrived to let them know we were coming. She didnt seemed thrilled to have us but we still had power for the night so whatever. Only negative is the service here. We would stay again if we had to and show up in the early part of day before they shut down. Gravel lot, pretty level, quiet. Wonderful restaurants about...

I entered the facility to promptly run into the infamous female John Denver. She asked if I was planning to enter the petrified forest. I proceeded to tell her about my hike into the petrified forest the day before and stated I am not sure that I would enter into the desert again. She promptly cut off my story time and told me the petrified forest would be closing soon somewhat rudely. I then attempted to inquire about the broken down vehicles in the parking lot with flat tires. She was very abrupt with me but basically told me not to worry about them it is hot in the desert. Oooooo k. I felt rushed while I was trying to shop come to find out John Denver was closing up shop. I gave Johnny her free sample of Petrified wood back and headed to the shop across the street to further receive extremely poor customer service which was free. I did manage to get out of the area with all my tires intact. I would recommend Jim Grey's Petrified Wood Co. In Holbrook about 18 miles away. Prices are reasonable, they have a variety of merchandise and the folks made me...

Pulled in here just after nightfall, about 7 PM. It was dark and I wasn't sure where parking was allowed. I pulled to the shoulder near a permanent trailer in the Hope's of speaking to someone who lived there, or at least a fellow camper. Suddenly a woman burst from the trailer shouting "YOU CAN'T PARK THERE! YOU CAN'T PARK THERE!" over and over again. I attempted to tell her that I wasn't planning to stay where I was, and just needed to know where would be alright to park, but she couldn't hear me over her own screaming, and just continued. I can appreciate that it was after hours, and she likely didn't want to be bothered with customers, but if it really bothers her that much, maybe just don't offer the service. If you are going to continue to offer camping on your property, and work in hospitality and retail you should probably temper the way you talk to your guests a little more than not at all. Needless to say after this bizarre interaction I didn't feel comfortable...

If only you could give zero stars, that is what I would be giving this place. We saw the sign that CLEARLY says free camping and also had a run-in with the infamous rude female that quite a few people have mentioned in previous posts. We pulled in at 3:30. She practically ran out to us and said, "We're closed, we're closed. There is camping across the street and they have electric." We tried to explain that we did not need electric and she rudely cut us off and said that no generators were allowed here either. We have solar, and there was another camper running a generator... She again told us to just go across the street and they would take care of us. Needless to say, we did not want to stay there anyway after how rudely we were treated. Someone really needs to do something about this woman driving business away. The next morning there were three more RVs in the lot, so obviously they were not closed. If you don't want people to camp there then quit offering free camping.

I love this place. The owners are very friendly and they have awesome stuff in the gift shop. Be sure to make your souvenir pennies when you're there, the penny machine is right inside the entrance. The other awesome point about this place is it offers free camping. If you are in a RV or self-contained vehicle you can camp there for free. I have stayed there twice and have always felt safe. Conveniently located at the South entrance of the Petrified Forest National Park it's the perfect place to stop and stay while you visit the forest. Even the things around the gift shop and the one across the street are pretty cool. Check out the pyramid at the corner and the structure of the building itself with all the crystals, petrified wood, agate and other stones. So cool!

Staff was very unfriendly, bordering on hostile. This place is barely one step above RV'ing in a truck stop. We did not feel welcome at all. The parking lots are populated with dead cars. At first glance it looks like there are a good number of people there. But when you look closer, most of the cars have flat tires and no license plates. They are there for show. This gives the whole place a very creepy vibe. Were the dead cars put there for a reason? Or were the owners killed and turned into the Early Bird Special! Despite the whole "Stephen King" like vibe of the place, the overall location is beautiful. I give it 2 stars for the views and the stars at night.
