Horseshoe Bend, located just a few miles downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell, is one of the most iconic and breathtaking natural formations within the vast expanse of the Grand Canyon. Read moreThis was my second visit to Horseshoe Bend, and it definitely didn’t disappoint. During my first visit a few years ago, they were still doing construction on the parking area and grounds. It appears construction is now complete. There is now plenty of parking for cars, trucks, motorcycles, RVs, and busses. Entrance for passenger vehicles is only $10 per vehicle. Once you enter the gates, you will pay and receive your entry ticket. We arrived at 8:45am on Saturday and there was still plenty of parking available.
I highly suggest you bring a bottle of water for everyone in your group if you are going during the summer. The walk to the rim doesn’t take long, about 15-20 minutes depending on how fast you walk. You are able to bring your dogs with you if you want to experience this beautiful scenery with them. The short journey to the Rim is not strenuous at all. The path is unpaved; however, the gravel is so small, you’ll be able to push a stroller on it if you have small kids.
Once you reach the Rim, be prepared to have your breath taken away… it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. My eyes just couldn’t register what I was seeing. It is absolutely stunning and looks like you’re looking directly at a painting. I loved every moment of it. Now, I am extremely afraid of heights, so luckily, there is a railing that people like me can feel safe standing by to take in the amazing views. There were lots of brave people stepping beyond the rails to get their photo ops, watching them made my knees feel like jelly… good for them, I’m sure they got some amazing pics. But I’m a scaredy-cat and prefer to play it safe and stay behind the rails.
There were very few people at the rim once we reached it (about 9:15am), this was great because we were able to see what we wanted without the crowds. However, about 9:30am, a huge crowd of people came out of nowhere. I’m not sure if a couple of tour buses offloaded this large group of people, but it was a little overwhelming as they began to crowd and block the views. I HIGHLY recommend you arrive here before 9am, as the huge crowds seem to start arriving between 9:30am-10am based on what I experienced on my last visit.
Overall, this is a must-see natural attraction. Horseshoe Bend, is definitely a memorable experience you won’t ever forget.
