Really disappointed in our experience with Rainbow Trout Farm. Looking at their website and photos they lead you to believe that they stock or have relatively large Trout fish, provide you with the proper fishing gear for such fish, a clean proper grill and accessories to cook them. Unfortunately it was quite the opposite. Most (if not all) the fish are less than 12 inches. Its a $1.50 per person to fish. $1.50 per fish you catch and $1 PER INCH on each fish you catch. Sounds reasonable right? We caught 4 fish. 2 TINY 8" inch fish. 1 9"inch and 1 11" inch fish according to them (they "measure" it for you unseen) so that $36 in total inches. But you also need to add the $1.50 per fish. So that's $42. Then you add the $1.50 per person to fish. So that's how many held a fishing pole. In our case it was three. So that's $46.50 ... but then you have to buy a "cook grill kit" which consists of a paper plate, salt, pepper and lemon pepper in tiny pre-packaged packets. You have to buy one per person. They "clean" the fish for you and you'll TIP for that very easy, simple and fast process. They do not cut the heads off or debone them. So in our case we paid a total of $52.02 for 4 tiny fish. Now I'm NOT complaining about the cost ... I guess your paying for "the experience" as they would say ... heck the family that was in line waiting to pay before us paid $238 for their 8-12 tiny fish they caught. Anyways what I'm most upset about is their grills. They're dirty, gross and disgusting. They clearly don't clean, maintenance or maintain them. You would think that bare minimum they'd have proper clean grill stations waiting on customers considering how much they're spending to catch and cook these tiny, very bony, Rainbow Trout fish. We elected to take our tiny fish home to grill cook them.
After we cut the heads of they didn't yield much meat at all unfortunately. I wish our experience had been better. It's definitely a good easy money making racket because you have to catch alot of little ones, and that adds up, just to be able to cook something worth eating... especially if you're in a group of three or more people.
I also wanted to point out that how they set up the fishing poles. With the tiny size hooks they make you use you can't catch anything bigger than 11" maybe 12 inches if you're lucky. So you have to catch many to get some meat out of it if you're looking to cook. Also you cannot catch and release any fish whatsoever so your stuck buying...
Read moreYou are going to catch Rainbow Trout here! It was very easy to do, if you aren't an experienced fisherman. The staff will set you up with everything you need and give you advice on what to do. You will be provided with a cane-pole already rigged with line and a treble hook, a 5-gallon bucket for your catch, a hook remover, and a big ball of clay like bait. I suggest you find a good spot where your shadow doesn't show on the water, break off small pea-sized pieces of bait and chum the water a little. This will get the fish frenzied and they wont hesitate to strike your baited hook. There are a LOT of fish in plain sight. Most of the Rainbows I observed were 9-15 inches and perfect for eating.
The grounds are well maintained and the setting is very peaceful. You can grill your catch on the gas grills located at pavilions around the lake. Everything you need to prepare and eat your trout is provided. If you want it seasoned and prepared precisely, I recommend bringing your own food prep items and enjoy the freshest, best tasting rainbow trout for less than you'd pay at a fish market or restaurant.
This may not have the allure of catching wild trout from a local river but you cant beat the simplicity, the all inclusive tools for catching, preparing, and eating, and you don't have to pay for a fishing license. Definitely...
Read moreThis was a GREAT experience! THANK YOU DANI FOR BEING SO NICE!!! There were 2 kids and 4 adults and we made great family memories! We have tried "real" fishing with the kids 3 different times and caught nothing, so naturally when we said we were "going fishing" here, they were NOT excited......UNTIL they caught their 1st fish! The fish bite immediately, but let's face it.....our fast passed society doesn't want to sit around waiting for a fish all day, and especially not kids. Once we caught the fish, Dani cleaned all the fish and gave us a "show". While we were cooking the fish the kids enjoyed feeding the fish in the ponds and enjoying the great outdoors. Beautiful Sedona mountains, fantastic weather and family fun equals the perfect afternoon activity. Fish was very fresh. Kids "helped" us cook the fish too. I loved that we didn't have bring anything. They give you a kit with plate, napkin, utensils, salt, pepper, garlic, butter and lemon juice. The price is a little expensive $8 per fish, BUT, with the prices of everything else these days, we found the fun and experience to be worth the money! Again, Dani, the employee was super friendly and chatted with us for a long time. We will...
