Great hike for a prairie boy. Parked in the parking lot off the highway. Didn't know you could park at almost the trail head on the side of the road. Several challenging bits of incline. Path is clearly marked and flat stretches make for good views of Long's Peak, Estes Park, and surrounding area. Roughly 2.5 - 3 hours up at steady pace. 2 - 2.5 hours down. Start early to avoid climbing in the heat. The sun rises on the opposite side. We started at 8 am(End of July) and found the climb in the shade quite reasonable. Last 1/2 hour in full sun above the treeline. West peak has a trail past the communications shelter to the top. East peak is a moderate scramble.
