This was the first outing of the year for my friend and me. We had masters fever and were both eager to get out on the greens. I have played this course only once previously but that was over a year ago and it was just a quick 18. This was a new year. Due to time constraints we were not able to bring our golf bags, we decided just to rent from the clubhouse. When we arrived we had no problem finding a tee time. When we asked about renting clubs, the gentlemen told us that they were out of rentals and just had the upgraded rentals (TM's) for double the price of standard rentals. This price was about 40$. I have never been to a course that was not fully equipped with enough clubs. I as the customer put it on the club to provide us clubs to play the course. I then asked if he would be able to discount the upgraded bag of TM's due to the fact that the club was out of normal rental clubs. He said that was not an option. He proceeded to explain that they will do their best to put a bag together for us. I was surprised at this point that they were not willing to work with the customer and allow us to use the TM's at a discounted price. From a business point of view this was a terrible mistake. We waited for a few minutes and we were handed two bags of clubs. At this point we just wanted to get out on the course and swing the clubs. After paying and proceeding outside to the practice greens, my friend realized that his putter and many of his clubs were a mix of children’s and woman’s clubs. The putter was literally made for a 7 year old. WE ARE GROWN MEN. This clearly shows the I don't care attitude coming from the staff. We decided that they wasted enough of our time and we were just going to play from my bag that at least had adult clubs. It was not soon after teeing off we approached the greens. Even with the note that it’s the beginning of the season. These were some of the worst greens we have ever seen or played on. We decided to still salvage the day because we were still paying customers. I highly discourage anybody to play this course and give Greendale your time because they don't care about yours, or your experience. The fact that they did not work with us about playing with the "upgraded" clubs and then proceeded to give us children’s clubs with no shame is the reason I am writing this review. BAD BUISNESS! If they would have worked with us and we shot our rounds we may have returned. After this experience we will NEVER be back. I hope this finds staff or management of Greendale Golf Course because this is a great lesson on what not to do...

This is a really great course for those who like being able to walk on at almost anytime on weekdays. The rates are great and the staff is friendly. Sure it's not Augusta National or Pebble Beach, but some of the holes a very challenging. If you can par number one with any degree of regularity, you should be playing a more difficult course. Still most of the holes can be mastered and a good time can be had by joining up with friendly golfers also walking on.

I am updating my earlier review to take into account physical improvements made in 2014 and 2015. Fairfax County and Greendale management have spent fortune to upgrade the drainage throughout the layout. Not only is the course better physically but almost all of the improvements have added to the beauty of the already gorgeous course.

Greendale is the hidden gem among the Fairfax County public golf courses. While not intended to compete with Twin lakes or Laurel Hill, it stands in the middle as a course for semi-experienced golfers of all ages.

The snack bar is very good and the prices are right.

All in all it is a great bargain and a decent golf experience for near beginners and old duffers.. I recommend it highly. The Board of Supervisors, the Park Authority and the management and staff of Greendale should be rightly proud of course and its...

This past Monday 9/11/23 I was reminded why I will never come here again. The female starter that was working early in the afternoon is awful. I had a 1:30 tee time that I booked at 1:15 on Golfnow that had 4 openings, so I knew i would be playing alone. I checked in at the register and the gentleman said I was good to go. I walk outside at 1:27, there's nobody at the tee box or anywhere on the 1st hole but the female starter said I had to be paired with 2 other guys who were still at the practice green and clearly in no rush. I explained to her I only have an hour and would rather play alone. She mumbled something as she was walking away, so at 1:30 (my tee time) there clearly was nobody ready to start so I proceeded to tee off alone. As I finish the hole, i notice the starter had drove up and she starts harassing me for not waiting. There was zero reason for me to be paired with anyone, especially with 2 people who had a later tee time and were in no rush to get going, they were still practicing after I finished the first hole. The starter said to me, "how would you feel if someone didn't wait for you"? Insane. I was so annoyed that I just left. I spent $30 to play 1 hole and be harassed by a staff member, but the reassurance of knowing never to come here again was well worth...

Played Greendale yesterday, Sept. 6, 2020 It was a disaster! Most tee boxes were dirt, 14th green gone - hole closed. Other greens virtually destroyed, crab grass growing everywhere in greens, fairways not mowed, rough not mowed. Rough growing into greens. Wet and muddy in many low lying places. One of the worst condition golf courses I have ever played in my entire golfing career since I was 12 yrs. old. See attached photos. Much of the damage is due to weather, fungus, excess moisture and excessive heat, but a lot of deterioration is due to negligence in maintenance - such as not mowing when it could be done, lack of fertilization, trash bins not emptied, missing tee markers, traps not raked, trees/bushes not trimmed, etc. During this summer I have played at least 10 different area courses, all of which have faced the same tough summer weather, but none of them are in this poor a condition. The course is basically destroyed, and especially not worth the $40 greens fee, even with a 25% discount for the closed hole. Avoid!! FCPA should be ashamed of themselves.

Really rough shape, sloooow play and a swamp. Not worth the money and the worst looking Fairfax course I've ever seen. Looks like they've just given up on it. No rakes in the bunkers but also no sand in them either. No sand anywhere, no topdressing for the tee boxes or fairways. Weeds, mud, erosion everwhere. Tee boxes are the worst, they have a couple that are ok but 90% have no grass and are mostly mud. Neither tee boxes or fairways have been topdressed or mowed to the correct height so it's like hitting out of your front yard and need to either need to tee up on a patch of dirt or tee it high to get a clean lie. A bunch of the greens are in pretty bad shape also, impossible to putt and nothing is marked as ground under repair. Greens are slow, bumpy soft. Teed off at 7:10 and had a 5 hour round. Saw the marshall on 17 and he tells us that is not just normal it's right on the expected pace! 5 hour round at 7:10 am, those afternoon rounds must be extremely painfull. Play pretty much anywhere else.

It’s a beautiful August day, about 80° and partly cloudy with great weather earlier in the week including a day or two of light rain. You make a tee time at Greendale golf course expecting the fairly priced public course to be in pretty good to average condition. BOY WAS I WRONG!! This course was the worst conditioned course I have played in about 10 years. The tee boxes were like rough, fairways were half dirt patches while the greens were as bumpy as an acne filled adolescents forehead. There’s a saying the grass is always greener. Thought it’d be that way on the back nine but the tee boxes were in even worse condition (as shown below).
