It’s really disappointing to see the Horgan Court Playground fenced off and locked after being open to the public for so many years. This playground used to be a place where families from all over the area could come together and not just those who happen to live within a particular HOA boundary. Now, access is restricted to a small group of residents, which feels like a clear example of privilege and gatekeeping. Many nearby neighborhoods don’t have safe or well-kept playgrounds, and this one offered a rare, welcoming space for children from all backgrounds. Closing it off sends the message that community spaces are only for those who can afford them. Decisions like this separate communities instead of bringing them together. It’s the opposite of inclusion, and it undermines the sense of connection and shared responsibility that should define a neighborhood. The reasoning given - a few incidents of litter or misuse - doesn’t justify excluding everyone else. There were plenty of ways to address those issues without literally locking the gates on local families. This could have been a chance for Kingstowne to model community-minded problem-solving. Instead, it chose to...
Read moreThis was a absolutely great park, but since it's open to the public and not just the residents of Kingstowne as it should, it becomes extremely crowded and with lots of people comes lots of trash etc. I've seen the park completely left in a mess, dog poop, all sorts of different kinds of garbage... disgusting. I find it odd that the parents would be ok with their kids trashing the place but let's face it, these inconsiderate people are probably coming from Chantilly and don't need to live here.
Finally, who's genius idea was it to remove the rubber handle and rubber seat on the zipline? It's just a bare chain now, and the seat is this cheap slippery blue piece of plastic, actually if you look closely see where all the tension is on the chain, and that's where it's rusting. Kingstowne is just asking for a lawsuit...
this is a literal example of "why we can't have...
Read moreAn excellent playground tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. There are multiple large slides, a zip line, a little play set for the tiny tots as well as a couple of play house type structures. My 4 year old loves riding his biking up and down the wide sidewalk along the street next to the park. We brought a lunch and ate at one of the two picnic tables. Next to the playground are three sand volleyball courts in one giant sand pit, so if your kids like to play in the sand bring some sand toys! The large power lines and towers directly above and next to the park aren’t ideal, but easily overlooked with all the fun this playground...
