Sunrise Mountain — Local services in Frankford Township

Well, how to begin? Began by saying "what the heck, so I'll have to drive down from the Mt in pitch black! Concerned bc last time I did, i got hopelessly lost! Although, I did see a Timber Rattlesnake that appeared as a long "stick" on the narrow road, illuminated by my headlights. To be on the safe side, and not wanting to run over it if was a snake - i stopped to investigate. Yep! A snake alright, so i videoed it slithering back into the brush, where it belonged. So, on October 9th, 2022, the night of the Harvest Moon, which i photographed rising after the shot of the setting Sun! 😎, Cool, after the gorgeous Sunset, I simply did an about face, and there was the rising Full Moon! One of the many beautiful spots in Sussex county. Easy enough to get to for anyone to enjoy. A drive to the top parking lot offers a great view, but it's the short walk from the parking lot to the pavilion where the best view can be seen.

Sunrise Mountain's name is a bit deceiving as the Sunrises are hard to see as the road is closed during the winter as the mountain alligns with the east so when the sun rises when the road is open, the tree line blocks the sun for a while. When the leaves are gone in the winter, if you can get to the top by walking, it's worth it.

Though the name is sunrise mountain overlook, I visited this site at sunset. Loved the beautiful view. Fall colors looked so beautiful from the top. The place is worth visiting for view. That being said, there isn't much to do at this site as the trail to the viewpoint is very short. You can however park the car and go looking for some longer trails, because there were other trails on the way to the overlook but no place to park the car at those trailheads. I guess most people park their cars at the overlook parking lot and walk down to explore...
