Though far from perfect (no field is), Paintball Sportsland (PBSL) provides an interesting experience. Spread out over 8 fields (including Airsoft Only) the experience can be something to remember. The first time I played here it wasn't as interesting from a staff standpoint, by this I mean the referee we (the airsoft group I was with) were assigned was new, however he was uninterested in the game and spent most of the time on his phone. This, though unprofessional, was not a factor overall as the group I was with was mostly veteran players who were honorable and called hits as they got hit, we were able to do whatever game modes the group wanted and had an all around fun day. The biggest problem I have with PBSL is the field sizes. In the group I was with (16 people) the majority of the fields were too large for the group so action was spread out and it didn't feel as fast paced as other fields, the exception to this was Field 1, Speedball and Town. Field 1 was great for attack and defend as the near side of the field (to the deadbox) was a large fortress, this provided great gameplay as the match progressed. Speedball is a field that is placed in the middle of a slightly angled hill that has everything from Doritos to a snake to chest high bunkers (all made of wood) that allow quick, precise gameplay to rule over sprinting like a madman across the field. the group favorite however, was Town. This field, complete with a multi story building that overlooks the left flank, has building spread over a medium sized field that is the best for fast but tactical gameplay. For the group of 16 I was in this field reigned supreme over the rest and had most of the group complaining when we had to leave. overall PBSL is a field I cant wait to return to, however as the groups get bigger as the season progresses this review will most likely gain another star, however with the referee being uninterested and on his phone constantly and the maps being to large for small groups, I have to give this 3 stars. I have heard a rumor that a new, local airsoft team, the Frederick Phoenix, is making this their "Home Field" which will provide a great addition to the depth of...
Read moreI went with a group of about 11 or 12 friends and had a great time. Everything is relatively close and clustered around the pro shop so it's not too far to walk. We played from 10 am to 2 pm and were able to play on four fields, with two games at each field. Each game is about 15 minutes long. I thought it was interesting that usually in the woods games there wasn't a definite winning team declared by the referees, as long as the game wasn't capture the flag or a game of that nature. It aided the feelings of camaraderie among all of the players. Our novice group was thrown in with a lot of other players, so it wasn't terribly one-sided or unfair. We did get split up as a group at each field however, which was disappointing. We were able to play the Town and three woods fields: Field 1 (D-Day), Field 3 (Castle), and Field 4 (small barricades). It did become difficult to play effectively at times because of the size of the group, especially at the Town where there are closer quaters than on the woodsball fields. The fields were varied and challenging each in their own right. The facilities were clean and in good condition. There was a changing room/restroom specifically set aside for the ladies on the second floor of the white building (pro shop), but gentlemen were directed outside to the port-a-john. Our group had to buy an extra 500 rounds of paint during our time at the field for $14. I'm not sure how good of a price that is, but it seemed reasonable to me. We chose this field because everything is included in the rental price, whereas other fields charge more for additional items such as a barrel cover. I didn't really get a good look in the pro shop, but it seemed small. Overall the experience brought us closer as friends and was a great way to officially kick...
Read moreWe went there with a party a couple of weeks ago for a birthday party.. the lady running the show (the owner is who I was told it was) was super rude.. There was some confusion about using our paintballs (with our own guns mind you). We asked in advance what the policy was, and we were told by the staff that it was fine as long as we ONLY put them in our guns. We were fine with that. So right before we go on the field she comes out yelling about the situation. Telling us we can’t use the paintballs that we brought. We would have been fine either way, but that’s NOT what we were told prior to play time.. our referee was a good kid. He felt bad about the situation. Not only that it cut into our playing time listening to her rant! So our ref asked for an additional couple of minutes to make up for the 5 or 6 minutes we had to listen to her. She said no ( even though we were only 1 of 2 fields being played on. I called back today to book my sons birthday.. I get the same lady.. I told her that I wasn’t happy with how it was handled the last time we were there, and she proceeded again to rant about “her guns... her field..” That’s fine.. your paintball guns.. your field.. We will try taneytown from now on, and recommend everyone taking your business there. Better fields (nicer staff). It’s ok to have policy’s in place. You have to this day in age. It’s NOT OK to treat customers...
