My husband and I stopped at Liberty Road Seafood and Steak for quick dinner on our way home from visiting our adult daughter at her new home in Virginia. The restaurant sits a few yards back from Liberty Road/rt 26, which was along our way home. It is easy to access and parking is ample. Wheelchair/Handicapped Parking is directly adjacent to the entrance. We have been here a few times in the past during travel. It's notable that despite the name of the restaurant we have never seen anyone eating steak there. A local favorite here is the AUCE (All You Can Eat) steamed crabs, which includes soup, tossed salad, corn on the cob, dinner rolls and butter. Other AUCE specials were available with substitutes for crabs, including steamed mussels, steamed clams with drawn butter, and fried oysters. Several parties were enjoying the AUCE crabs, which appeared to be well-seasoned. We have enjoyed the crabs in the past and found them to be heavy with meat. We were anxious to get home and did not order from the AUCE specials. We shared an appetizer of battered onion rings. The basket was overflowing with large crisp tasty rings. The Maryland Crab Soup was just ok; the broth was pale, thin, and under seasoned. I added seasoning to make it palatable but it still needed more vegetables. The inexcusable in a seafood restaurant in the Chesapeake Bay region is a lack of crab. This soup had a sparse amount of shreds of crab and no intact pieces, let alone lumps. My husband ordered scallops and they were not freshly caught/frozen. They may have been dry packed, which is safe but often leaves them tough, dry and fishy tasting. Good scallops should be soft and tender with a mild taste that is based on how they're seasoned and cooked. A side dish of hush puppies were so dry they were falling into crumbs and were served cold. He enjoyed his broccoli. It was fresh, fork tender, and cut into bite sized pieces. My entree was a crab cake that was tasty but average. It did have a sweet fresh flavor along with a decent proportion of crab seasoning and it was a blend of regular crabmeat and backfin. I ordered the same sides as my husband with the same results. The desserts consist mostly cakes and pies homemade in a wide variety and some pudding, custard and bread pudding made in small batches by a local cook in her home. Everything looked good, but we didn't indulge. I wouldn't go out of my way to dine at Liberty Road Seafood and Steak Restaurant but I think it is a good place for steamed crabs. There are no better non-chain restaurants in...
Read moreI reluctant to leave this review.. especially because the costumer service here certainly meets the needs! However I feel robbed!!! :( let me start by saying I am from Baltimore, granted Maryland seafood/crabs will never compare.. furthermore this is my second attempt at this resturaunt the first time my crabs were kinda light & barley seasoned however they are located conveniently 4 min down the road.. the way gas prices are & being a crab eater almost everyday.. sounded like a win win! Nope!!! I call the restaurant to place a 1/2 dozen order.. (I usually can not eat more then that in one setting) the lady on the phone, very nice says one dozen of Med Males will be 65$ a doz… Not to bad.. I order a half dozen. I walk in to pick up my order.. paid and tipped the resturaunt.. I get in the car & upon checking the receipt I notice I’m charged 35$ for half of a dozen, half of 65$ Is 32.50$ ☹️now I’m not sure why I was charged more then half the price of a dozen so I called the restaurant and asked why this happened and it was explained there half doz prices are not always the same.. huh?!! She repeated, their crabs do not always equal to half of what a dozen is priced.. ok ma’am duly noted!! So I’m over charged.. I tip you all & yet I get home to eat my crabs that has exactly 6 crabs in the bag!! No room for duds or mushy crabs.. shucks even super light ones :/ 6 crabs exactly! No legs thrown in nothing!! Sort of disappointing.. I begin with the first crab.. very mushy.. the second.. super light I believe the legs had more meat in that one.. ok prayers now.. on to the 3rd crab, I crack that boy open in hopes for a winner! Nope!!! Another very light crab!! I feel robbed!!! ☹️ despite the overly nice reviews I read & given this restaurant a second chance. I must say I will...
Read moreDressed up with family visiting in tow we headed out for a nice seafood dinner. We all were nicely dressed to have a lovely family dinner at a nice restaurant we looked up online. We walked in and we're immediately taken back by the atmosphere. This is very much a local joint and not at all classy by no means. Nonetheless we were hungry and thought we would give it a shot. The tables are strewn with paper bag like covering for easy cleanup and understandably so if you were there to share a table full of blue crabs...which we were not! The tilapia (least expensive fish $ can buy was overcooked the lobster tails were over cooked the scallops were over cooked. The coleslaw had a refrigerated taste to it. The steak was chewy. The crab bites were burned as well as the brussel sprouts. I'll say this...the apple alcoholic drink I had was good. The hot crab dip appetizer was ok. The best thing on any of our plates were the crabcakes. If I were ever to return at some point it would probably be for crabcakes. Therefore, if you are reading this ...if you for whatever reason want to go here for dinner...#1 dress like you would if you were at home on the couch. #2 order the crabcakes. Sidenote:. We sat right next to the bar and right by a window with a cashier that kept eyeballing us. Anyway, we watched the bartender literally dip a glass in ice but then scoop some more out with her bare hand to fill the glass. Oy! It simply wasn't a great experience for any of us. Oh, and let's not even discuss the prices. This is definitely overpriced!!! My table and our 3 checks with tips was close to $400 and oh what a complete waste of hard earned money!!!! If you have never been here before be warned..."I...
