This is my favorite Gainesville Festival! There’s no better way to spend a gorgeous fall day than going to Lake Lanier Olympic Park and enjoying community, great music, family fun and more chicken than you could eat if you had three stomachs! Parking and traffic can get really hectic at the park, so I recommend parking at the shuttle station a few minutes from the park and letting the Gainesville trolley drive you directly to the front gate. Buy your tickets online in advance to save time at the venue. With the advance tickets you can just head to Will Call at the gate and grab your wristbands and plates (brilliantly placed in Chicken Festival frisbees which add stability so you can collect tons of chicken samples plus they are fun for later too!) Once inside, grab some beer, wine or a mimosa from the Tap It or Downtown Drafts tent (or just a cold Coke if you prefer!) and pick a chicken chef for your first delectable sample! There are tons of teams both local and from all over Georgia cooking up their very best chicken recipes all day, from smoked traditional wings and fried chicken tenders to buffalo, barbecue, blueberry and honey citrus chicken, taco chicken… sweet, spicy, bone-in or boneless…old favorites and creative takes! Some teams have sides too, french fries, corn pudding, stuffed peppers and funnel cake were all on the menu and all included with your wristband! Your ticket gets you 10 samples and trust me, you’ll be stuffed. You can walk with your plate and eat as you go or there are a lot of tables set up at the venue where you can sit and snack. There is live music by the waterfront, and a kids’ zone with crafts and a bouncy castle. This festival has great hometown vibes. Gainesville is the poultry capital of the world and celebrating that with a bunch of locals like me plus out of town visitors that just want to eat great chicken makes for a really fun afternoon.
