I recently held my wedding reception at the Pavilion and while I was pleased overall, elsewhere would have been less hassle. Budget cuts meant that the awesome person who had been in charge of coordinating events at the Pavilion was let go. Everything that had been done for my reception with that person, was lost in the transition. It was then frustrating figuring out who I needed to be in contact with and it seemed that there was no plan made for someone to take on that roll.
I sent them all the information that the original coordinator asked I provide before she was let go, after the headache of figuring out who I should send it to, and in total I sent the same email 3 times. I don't think it was ever read because I would receive an email from them asking for the information I sent in my first email.
I paid way to much to have time to decorate the day before. I only had 2 hours to decorate and was promised that everything would be set up the day before (tables, chairs, linens, etc.) so set up time would go quickly. It was a good thing I had little confidence in the Pavilion because I checked on the set up as the workers were doing it... I lost that confidence when the excellent coordinator was let go. My mom and I had to move the tables to create room for a dance floor, hide the yellow stains in the table cloths, pull out the chairs that were dirty and torn and replace them with good ones, flip the tablecloths to the right side, re-hang the lights that were falling from the windows, and ask that the placed be cleaned. The floors were filthy, all the windows were covered in fingerprints, the entrance was covered in dirt and sand, and the bathrooms had very little toilet paper or hand soap.
In the end, my family and I were able to fix a lot (which wasn't our job) and the Pavilion did clean the place after I asked. In end, the Pavilion was a gorgeous place for a wedding reception but it turned into a lot of extra hassle when the city made cut backs. Hopefully the city can figure things out because there's a lot of potential out at the Pavilion but it's not worth it for the...
Read moreReally needs someone to give it a good cleaning before any meeting or function....there are those doggone spiderwebs and fall tree droppings everywhere on the entrances. Just sprucing up the bathrooms and little things like that would be great! Otherwise...I really like the pavillion...no complaints! I was SO HAPPY that it was allowed to stay standing and be repurposed. Everyone's so gungho to tear old buildings down instead of fixing them up. This beautiful old building is an integral part of Galesburg history. Let's try to keep the old...

Even when just driving through the area, many times I will stop there to have a snack or what not. I'll leave the beach has kind of gone downhill the last number of years, I still took my grandkids their last summer and...
