I've been coming here for a few years and I shoot pistol and rifle. Never had an issue. Came in last week and was told by the guy who manages it that the owner kicked me out. Was told it was for shooting up the target frames. Anyone who has been to the pistol range will tell you that the majority of any target frame is shot out and you'll likely have no luck using the range's thumbtacks to hang a target. Even with a stapler, it's difficult. And any frame at the 7' line is ridiculous for being able to hang a target. Used to be that the range would replace the target once a week. Since first of year, not even once a week it would seem. Perhaps that's why my "lifetime" membership was terminated without any warning any hint of a warning. The owner supposedly witnessed me shooting up things. Which is funny, because I have no earthly idea what the owner looks like. Again, nobody said a word except to say I could no longer shoot there. To be honest on this review, I'm a very good shot and I shoot hundreds of rounds when I go to the range. To say I shoot the frame or target boards out is fair, but again without hearing I was being an issue is to wrongly take my money and then terminate my membership without any warning. So, this place gets 2 stars because I like some of the guys working there and they were fair. As a range, it's a 1 star at best. Why? Because the targets are not being fixed/replaced to where a target(s) can be hung. And you can't fire a round but 1 per second. As a self defense shooter, I will make the claim that all other ranges I've checked out allow quick/rapid fire as long as you're being safe and it's apparent you're shooting purposefully. And most every range I've had to now check into has a daily range fee that's $5, $10, or $15 dollars cheaper than garland's. So, if you're like me and want to give your money to a local business than look into TargetMasters off Juniper. It's indoors there. I tend to like being outside, but at garland pubic range I've lost weeks of shooting due to weather. And when summer comes on, between the heat and the wasps, indoors is much much much better. I've included a pic of one of my targets on the shooting range the visit before my membership was terminated. I shot for approx. 4 hours and fired 800 rounds of 9mm. Yep, I'm enthusiastic. But that said, whoever this owner is wrongfully came after me. Nope, I'd never go back. I turned a blind eye to so many shitty acts from the folks working the range that I could never ever give them a pass.

A reply from the range 5 years later. ⬇️ It's a nice old outdoor shooting range that still observes an occasional cease fire for target resetting. The cease fire fosters pleasant social interaction and gives your ears a rest. Nothing pretentious here, just a bunch of proud Americans whose skill and ethnicities vary. Bring cash as they don't accept credit cards. If you're using the rifle range, you'll be required to use soft or hollow points. No FMJ on rifle. Handguns are bring what you have. I brought a S&W 500 and they were OK with it and even offered helpful advise on shooting that beast. Highly recommend. Update: Possible new ownership/management. Changing from 5 to 1 star. My wife accidentally loaded FMJs into a spare mag (none went down range and soft point mag was actually in the gun). Range master sent us home for the day. Not happy about it because he could clearly see that we were not, nor was there any intention if shooting FMJs. 1 star for now till I decide (if I decide) to go back. Until today, I had good experiences.

Save your money and shoot at a range closer to you. Employees make or break your business. This is particularly true of gun ranges. No place in the game for arrogance, or ignorance. I've shot at this location occasionally for 10-15 years when I needed to quickly boresight a rifle. In those years, I've seen staff smile exactly twice. Mostly they present as miserable, unhealthy people that should be working as unarmed security at a strip mall. In the past, it was pontificating range officers that didn't know their belly from the subject matter. Today, the range was dead and it shouldn't have been a problem for two visiting, non-shooters to simply observe as I worked on a rifle. Nope. Tubby wanted $40 per person. Just absurd. Turned in my range card and correct, that means I won't be back. (Photo taken at a fun range, not in Garland.)

Disappointing Experience at DFW Shooting Range

I recently visited a new shooting range in the DFW area, eager to experience what it had to offer, especially considering my extensive background in visiting over 20 different shooting range locations in the region. Unfortunately, my experience at this particular location was far from enjoyable.

Upon arrival, the facility appeared inviting and well-maintained. However, my initial impressions were shattered when we encountered an unwelcoming staff member, John (if that is indeed his name). His disinterested demeanor and apparent dissatisfaction with his job severely impacted our interaction, and his reluctance to communicate properly left a negative impression.

Our experience took a further hit when we were ushered into a room to watch an outdated and poorly produced safety video. While I appreciate the importance of educating users about range safety, the presentation of the information was subpar and hard to follow.

Furthermore, the cost of using the range was significantly higher than other local ranges I have visited, at $50 for a session. Comparable facilities in the area charge between $20 and $30 for unlimited access.

To make matters worse, we were informed after paying that we could not use our own ammunition due to its noise level. When we requested a refund, the staff member became visibly agitated and refused, despite not having inquired about our ammunition prior to accepting payment. In contrast, we noticed that he did ask subsequent customers about their ammunition before they paid.

When I expressed my dissatisfaction with the way we were being treated, the staff member's behavior escalated, resulting in him throwing a pencil at me and using foul language. In all my years of visiting shooting ranges, I have never been subjected to such unprofessional conduct.

It is truly disheartening that the range's management allows for such poor customer service. I sincerely hope they take the necessary steps to address this issue and train their staff to treat customers with respect. As for me and my family, we will not be returning to this range and instead will continue to patronize other establishments, such as Mister Guns, where hospitality and quality service...

I am a bit surprised to see some of the negative reviews of this range. I've had my range/membership card (paid $10 for a lifetime membership) back in the mid-1970s. From the mid-1970s until maybe 2010, the fee to shoot there was $10. It is now $15. How many other entities have raised their prices by only $5 in in 40 years??? The rules of the range are explained very clearly before you are given a range/membership card. The range rules are posted on the internet (I saw a few comments that said that they are not). For those who are upset with the range officers for "yelling" at them or evicting them, please remember that if you disobey rules at a gun range the results of those rule violations can have very serious consequences (serious injuries, etc.) Other area outdoor ranges charge a membership fee that ranges from $15 ANNUALLY and $15 to $20 per day to $5000 one-time fee and a few hundred dollars monthly to remain a member. The Garland range is a very inexpensive option. And, they are not a gun or sporting goods store. They have a limited number of rental guns and a limited amount of ammo available for purchase. The fact that they do not take credit cards helps keep costs down. Credit card processors charge fees each time they process a transaction and those fees increase annually. This review was not written by a "BOT" it was written by an almost 40 year member of this range, who also happens to be a female. I've always been treated fairly by the...
