As far as the shop itself, I love it. I love the items, prices, variety, quality, and purpose of what they are doing. I appreciate and understand that it is ran by volunteers (mostly older retired senior ladies). That being said I don't appreciate when I'm browsing hearing them gossip behind the counter. Rather it's about me or someone else I never met. The store is very quite no music playing and on the small side, so you can hear everything anyone says even if your on opposite sides of the store. I get it, people gossip but I don't think its appropriate when working with the public. I ESPECIALLY do not appreciate while I'm standing at the counter having the items I wanted to purchase, for myself or for a friend or family member, being discussed and commented on. 2/15/22 I came in to shop. Saw the $1 tops sale and figured shoo can't pass this up. So I grabbed items for family while shopping as well. At check out there were two ladies ringing me up. They carefully grab each item and mark it down with its price. Fold it, and stack it nice and neatly to be bagged. But while doing this the one lady felt the need to voice her opinion on the items i picked out. She picks up a poncho I had and say "where did this come from it's HUGE" in a nasty tone WELL it is a cowl neck knitted wool XL large poncho. I'm the size of a corn chip so Im not offended by the comment on it's size. Good thing I wanted something HUGE because this time of year I'm COLD and it's like wearing a blanket. Then she gets to this long sleeve slight cropped fitted sweater xs. And dangles it up in the air for I guess God to see. And says "what is this? Who in the world would wear this, and stand there with it waiting for an supporting reply from the other lady. Who hesitantly finally say, "well not me". And the lady kinda chuckles and say all snooty "definitely not me" and finally folds it up and places it in the bag. Good thing I'm not the type of person who values the opinions of people on what it is I plan to wear. What if I was though? What if I was very self conscious about my size? And her comment hurt my feelings and I changed my mind on even purchasing. What if she hurt my feelings and I was too ashamed to even return to that store again. The prices are clearly marked down because they need to make room for all their new inventory. I'm sure they slammed with donations now with the holidays being over and tax season is here. She potentially could have lost a customer and sales on those items today. And I'm a very frequent shopper their since I have 3 little ones growing like weeds, I've spent hundreds of dollars at this point. My two grandmas also volunteer there. Yes she is volunteering her time, that does not mean she should not act professionally. We all have bad days, I get it. This has not been the first time something like this has happened. EVERYTIME I've been in there, the volunteers are gossiping and frequently comment on the items being sold. If I'm listening I know everyone who comes in is listening as well. Everyone HAS to wear a mask in the store, so who knows who is in there and hearing you. I've been in there for a good hour or so with my grandma working...and she didn't realize it was me until I pulled my mask down at check out. If you do cannot work professionally with the public, DO NOT VOLUNTEER TO BE WORKING...
Read moreGreat thrift store. It's run by volunteers. It is clean, well stocked, and has a large variety for such a small space. It's a shame that the prices have gone up significantly in the past few months. Also saddened that the "sales", bag/specific items, i.e., pants, shirts, etc., & colored tags have been eliminated for the most part. Saddened because many families are unable to pay store prices for their childrens' clothes & shoes. They were able to get current styles, that are nice, & clean. I even saw men go in and get a nice gift for that special woman. It was clear that otherwise there wouldn't have been any gift. Sales posted on, FB. I like many others, I no longer get on Facebook. I quit because the day after joining I was inundated with SPAM email, even though I clicked "private" on all the choices. I would prefer a quick text notification for the sales, but I was recently told that, sales are a thing of the past! It seems that making more money is chosen over service. I get the money supports St. Martin's Free Clinic, in Garrett. Since the Affordable Care Act took effect, free clinics don't usually have overwhelming patients to serve. A long line waiting for the door to open, has not been the case. I do hope that there are checks & balances in place, to insure fiscal...
Read moreHands down the worst shopping experience of my life. One of the sales clerks regularly came and stood 3 feet away from me and just starred at me as I was browsing. I guess to make sure I wasnt stealing? So ackward. Then, she literally put her hands on my 3 year old son and pried his fingers off of the toy house he was playing with and said "Its time to be done". Im...
