Sugarfoot Convenience Store — Local services in Gerster

My husband and I stopped for lunch today on our way to KS. Once we stepped out of the car, the BBQ smell in the air was great. Too bad the food, initial service and overall dollar value were not.

The young brunette teen girl behind the order counter was quite rude, unfriendly, disengaging and seemed pretentious and hurried; treated us as if we were not worth her time or she could not care less about what it means to be the first impression of the restaurant.

The blonde-haired young man whom ran the register was very pleasant, friendly and helpful; the way ALL employees/representatives of a customer-oriented establishment should be.

Food was okay but certainly not $36 worth for two people. We both ordered brisket dinner and only one had added two ribs. The brisket was cold (although dry, tasted good) and the "babyback ribs" were cold, dry, nearly burnt and VERY salty. Sauces were very basic/average. Sugarfoot toes [potatoes] were hot and tasty. First time eating inside, have bought food to go a couple of times. Friendly service, clean place. Our ham and brisket sandwiches were tasty, meat very tender on both. The fries were great and the beans were ok. Tried the ribs, very tender and good flavor. The sauce goes on anything well. I was confused because my husband's sandwich was the same size as mine and his was to be a jumbo. The one thing I would change is, how the menu is, it's very busy and hard to take your time to look at it because there's not really anywhere to stand before you get in line to order. So I would take out one of the tables on that side to make room.And I would start the line over a little further. Definitely check...

This place used to be my families favorite bbq spot and that's saying a lot since we live in Kansas City. We would stop there at least once on our way to or on our way from Springfield where my wife's parents live.

Lately though it hasn't been as good. The burnt ends aren't as crispy and the pulled pork is just kinda meh. I mean the foods not bad and it's certainly one of the best spots between KC and Springfield, but lately it just hasn't...
