I placed my order for sweet potato slips in the mid to late winter. By late May I still had not received them. I emailed to inquire about my order. 2 days later I received a response. Due to the ongoing up and down weather conditions in the Northeast, they were holding my order for another two weeks. That was a great decision! Even after my slips arrived and placed them in a glass of water, it was still another 3 weeks before I could be confident that the weather was going to cooperate.
I only lost one slip from my order. We are now going into August and they look phenomenal! I planted them in a raised bed between two other beds that have tomato plants. I trained the vines to go into the other two beds and they have made a great cover around the base of the tomato plants. Not only are they helping to keep the soil from drying out, they also help prevent splash up when it rains, protecting the maters from fungal diseases and have provided shade for my lower hanging tomatoes so no sun scald!
Looking forward to harvest time to see how...
Read moreSo far I am less than thrilled with ordering from this company. I placed an order early on and put a note on it to get the order delivered within a certain time window. Because on one end I would be out of town, and on the other I needed to get plants in the ground before May 25. I sent them an email asking them if this would be a problem. They eventually responded stating the note was put on the order.
So what happened? They sent the order out on the day I planned to plant. So they are likely to arrive on May 25. Geez. I might be understanding if they let me know why they went out late. But this company doesn't like to respond to emails. And when they do, it's delayed and with very short answers.
Now lets see what the plants look like when they arrive. I should have taken the time to read all the bad reviews on Daves Garden. Then I would have ordered from some place else. AVOID THIS COMPANY. They aren't professional enough to live up to...
Read moreOverall, I don’t recommend this company when other choices are available.
Pros: -Sweet potato slips looked fantastic. Lush, green, and fresh. -Good, fast customer service.
Cons: -They did not send the correct order. They did correct it, but when you are doing a large planting it really hurts the flow to have to do it twice. -One variety of slips arrived with what appeared to be a fungus. Customer service assured me it was not a big deal, and they were fine. A product of shipping they said. While they did grow normally, every sweet potato we dug had a horrible scurf infection. Scurf only comes onto the farm from the nursery (we also haven’t grown sweet pots in several years and planted these in a new field), so it’s obvious that scurf fungus I saw when we received them. Since scurf control is a sweet potato nursery’s main focus, it shows the lack of attention to detail this...
