Very clean rest area. Visitor's attendant was very helpful every though it was a bit odd they were plastic shower curtain WALL they were behind (100's of items couldn't see) & the area was barricaded & you couldn't go in & just pick up the guides needed. You have to tell the attendant & try to understand her through the plastic barricade & here heavy face covering. Muffled & I could not hear a DAM thing really she was saying!! I would rather SELF - Service & pick up my own PAPER pamphlet & the like...Instead of guard/ attendant having to doing it. for me. If they are going to do all the SO CALLED FEAR pushed SAFETY, they need to glove up in plastic also & have a bio-haz-mat suit on. Better yet put every piece of reference literature , state maps,guides,etc... In plastic sealed packages all the millions of pieces of paper guides & then EVERYTHING would be GOOD to GO in a PLASTIC BUBBLE !!😉 GERM FREE !! Really now at some point if your are scared STAY HOME & we can & should take some responsibility for OUR OWN SELVES !! Let me pick up a PLASTIC Missouri PR bag & PICK my own PAPER UP!! I will be the one TOUCHING it with my GERMS. & NOT ATTENDANT with whole SAFETY outfit & NON-GLOVED. ? You can't wall it ALL OFF from every so called biohaz germ on every piece of paper guess they CAN,but it's all b.s.., What about all the Chemicals & Poisons being deliberately sprayed & put on & in our FOODS!! No STOPPING these KILLER practices. So people STOP falling for the FEAR-MONGERING& & Mind Game's!! You are still FREE & Fear is the Control of our society by those that want to have everyone scared & fearful of all others around them. The ppl in power are handed more with all your FEARS they create!! Don't live in fear & anxiety it's what makes you sick & unhealthy it trashes your immunity! Yes take common sense health precautions & healthy foods,CLEAN ph water, chem free Water, Exercise,& no posion foods, drinks & drugs in your body. Oh, the Joplin, MO Welcome Center—a true marvel of modern civilization! If you’ve ever dreamed of a life-changing, soul-altering rest stop experience, buckle up because this place is about to blow your mind.

First off, the architecture—absolutely breathtaking. I mean, who wouldn’t be impressed by a generic brick building with a parking lot that rivals the surface of the moon in crater density? And let’s talk about the landscaping—grass that truly embodies the “we tried” aesthetic, with just enough weeds to remind you that nature always wins.

The staff? Pure magic. I’ve never felt so simultaneously welcomed and ignored in my life. Need a brochure? They got you. Need the meaning of life? Well, good luck, because the existential dread of being in a highway welcome center at 2 PM on a Wednesday might just hit you harder than expected.

The bathrooms—ah, the crown jewel! If you’re into adventure, you’ll love the surprise factor of whether or not there will be toilet paper. And the smell? A delicate bouquet of industrial-strength cleaner with just a hint of “what died in here?”

But the pièce de résistance? The vending machines. Ever wanted to pay $3 for a soda that may or may not actually drop down? Thrilling! It’s like gambling, but for snacks.

All in all, if you’re passing through Joplin and feel like questioning your life choices for a solid 10 minutes, this is the place for you. Five stars? Nah. Five existential crises...

This Welcome Center is better than many rest areas that we visited during our trip. The building is very clean and well maintained. The walls are covered with license plates from all over the country which I think is really cool.

The vending machines are provided by the state and all proceeds from sales go to help the blind— I was truly impressed when I saw that! 👍🏻

There’s ample room to stretch, walk pets and let little ones tire out. The playground area looks like new with picnic tables nearby for the adults.

“Construction Barrel Charlie” is there to greet you as you walk up to the doors… 🤣 I just had to post a pic of him- so friendly and cheerful!! And everyone I show it to has a laugh!
