Walt's Appliance — Local services in Grand Prairie

My 30+ year old refrigerator was on its last leg, and I knew I would have to bite the bullet and purchase a new frig. Was at a big box store and decided to look and see what refrigerators looked like and the cost these days. My home is older and refrigerator space is very limited. I had measured so I knew basically the size I needed. Needless to say, there were no refrigerators on the floor that would fit my space so there was not a refrigerator I could actually see. The salesperson told me a number of times that if I ordered, to make sure my measurements were correct because there would be a15% restocking charge. She suggested I have them come measure for me at a cost of $75.00.

Since we had purchased our old refrigerator at Walt’s Appliance, they were the next stop. I told Joey what I needed, and he actually had a refrigerator that I liked and would fit my space. I needed an icemaker, and they could add one. However, when I got home, I checked the depth again because the kitchen door swings open in front of the frig and the depth had to be no more than 32 inches, or the kitchen door would hit the frig when it was opened. Go back to Walt’s and we measure the refrigerator again and in order for the frig I wanted to work; it would have to be pushed up against the back wall with no wiggle room. That wouldn’t work because of the line to the icemaker. So, we were back to square one. Joey told me that he would see if he could order a refrigerator that would fit my space. Later that evening he called and let us know that he could order basically the same size refrigerator with a 2 inch less depth. My refrigerator was delivered last Wednesday. It fit perfectly and George made sure everything fit and was working before he left.

Jennifer is such a pleasure to work with, she also has great knowledge and is an asset to Walt's as far as I'm concerned. I had been buying ice every 2 days for my ice chests for 1.5 wks which was a pain and expensive, she suggested dry ice, which I had thought about using, and called Albertson's to see if they still carried it; they didn't. For her to take that step on her own spoke volumes to me. Joey went beyond out of his way to help me get into a refrigerator as soon as possible. I had to decline one of his most gracious offers of repairing a fridge he had to sell me at a very affordable rate. The offered fridge was 3 cu ft., (which doesn't sound like much, but the footprint is in reality) smaller than what I have had for the last 20 yrs., and I knew with the amount of items I keep that it would be very frustrating to deal with a smaller fridge, most time my larger fridge was very very full.

A family friend of mine recommended Walt's for a washer repair, which will be done next; my broken fridge was completely untimely as they usually are, so I'm having to postpose the washer repair. I was unaware that Walt's was still in existence, I remember my parents using them for their appliance needs in the 60's and 70's. UPDATE-4.26.2024. Wanted to update this review to include my most recent experience with Walt's. My dryer went out so I called Walt's to talk about best options for a replacement. I'm recovering from surgery so I could not go to the store. They were fantastic in talking me through options, sending me pics and helped me select a machine to fit my needs. They delivered and installed my new dryer the very next day. Excellent customer service and I now have a set that will probably out last me! Highly recommend Walt's.

On a recommendation, I called Walt's yesterday to talk about a new washing machine. The owner spent about 30 minutes on the phone with me, talking through some options. He sent me the link so I could apply for financing and I got that pre=approved in a snap, 6 months interest free. I went to the store today and what a pleasure! These folks know applicances! Super friendly, very knowledgeable and quick! Walked me through the differences between the machines I was interested in-- from price to build to functionality. Delivered same day by a very thorough, friendly guy. He did a great job all around. Walt's beat the big box store experience HANDS DOWN!
