My mother went to Brushy Creek with a bad UTI and not able to walk. They got her walking and she was much better. When her Medicare would no longer pay for her PT, they put her in a wheelchair and would no longer allow her to walk because no one was trained to assist her in case she was to fall. At 89, she decided that she was able to walk herself to the restroom with her walker as well as the dining room table. They didn't want her doing that so they put her on oxygen. She was given a tank on the back of her wheelchair and the box tank beside her bed. When they needed to talk her somewhere (bathroom, table, etc) they used the tank on her chair. When they didn't want her to be able to move, they hooked her to the box beside her bed and wrapped it around and around the handle of the wheelchair leaving her approximately 3-4 feet to move. They also hid her call button underneath her mattress so that she could not see it or use it. She sat in a wheelchair and declined rapidly over the next 3 weeks. Her right foot began turning inward, she got depressed, wasn't eating, loss 14 pounds. got dehydrated and developed a UTI. They taped a DNR to her mirror and asked me to sign it. I felt like they were planning on her dying soon, possibly due to them knowing she had a UTI and they were not treating her for it. She was not eating or drinking and her BP was very low. They didn't test her for UTI for two weeks after I asked them to. I complained to the Director or Nursing and the assistant DON. The next day I went to visit my mom and she was restrained by the oxygen hose again. She said one of the CNA's had told her that she had been running her mouth and they wanted her to sit right there and not move. Three days later at my insistence, an ambulance was called and she was taken next door to the hospital where they said her UTI was so bad, they could smell it in the ER room, she was also severally dehydrated. She was discharged from the hospital 4 days later only to find out that Brushy Creek had not held her room. I contacted the Administrator Lindsay Cottingham but she would not return my calls. The social worker from the hospital who was trying to discharge my mother also called and Lindsay told her "she was complaining on us a week ago, why does she want to come back." I had nowhere to move my mother and she was stuck in the hospital. I called the regional director Mark Millet who assured me he would investigate and call me back but never did. I called the corporate office in Utah, Providence Group, only to be told that I need to speak to Mark the regional director again. Of course, he didnt not answer my calls. Three days later, we went to retrieve my mother's personal items and the had moved someone into her room and put her belongings into a closet. Numerous items were missing including her wheelchair and walker, shoes, clothes, bedding, hygiene items, family pictures, wall pictures, house plants, etc. Brushy Creek was able to locate her walker because we spotted it in another patients room. They had furnished him with a walker to use. It had to be cleaned before they could give it back to us. They have never found her remaining items and refuse to tell us to to contact regarding mediation or an insurance claim. 2.5 weeks later my mom went to a wonderful place where she is walking, laughing, making crafts and eating well again. THE new place calls my mom their little miracle. In hindsight, someone was looking out for my mama when they didn't let her go back there to be further mistreated.
While it is a nice looking facility, what goes on behind closed doors is a different story. Pop in at 2am and find call buttons going off while CNAs are asleep at their stations. Go anytime and see CNAs on their cell phones while call buttons are going off. Nurses are hard to find because they have two cottages per nurse (24 patients) so they are all over the place. Listen to the way CNAs talk to the patients when they think no one...
Read moreI was very disappointed with Brushy creek during my mama’s stay there. She went into rehab from a broken femur bone caused by stage 4 bone cancer. She had several doctor appointments when she went into rehab after her surgery on her leg. The transport lady did her job putting in request for her to be taken to her appointments, but they all got denied except for one that was the cancer doctor by the Director of Nursing . The doctor wanted my mom to go for radiation that was right next to the hospital starting that week. Also got denied by the Director of Nursing. One of the ladies who worked there violated a HIPPA policy. My mom was treated disrespectful by the staff, one of them pushed her into the side of her bed with the wheelchair that she was sitting with the leg that was operated on. When my mom yelled out the nurse was very apologetic. after she realized what she did to her. She laid in a wet and soiled diaper for couple of hours developed a bed sore again that was just cleared up from home. My mom was also on a feeding tube cause she won’t eat that much, I called up there to see if she was being fed through the feeding tube that day nurse told me she got a feeding at 9:30am and the other one was at 1:30 pm. They lied about that I had two relatives there at those times nurse also said she’s due for another feeding later that day my mom didn’t get that either. There are 24 small feeding boxes in the large box it comes in. She was in rehab for 3 weeks suppose to be getting fed through the tube 3 times a day. She was not getting fed through the tube. She was still on that one box with 8 to 10 small boxes left. She should have already been on her 3rd box. They was serving her regular food. I watched them one time giving her feedings through the tube nurse didn’t flush her tube out before or after. She lost weight in rehab we complained about several things to the staff nothing was done. Staff also emailed the Director of Nursing about all the concerns that was going on the Director of Nursing response was that’s my staff. There was no I’m sorry I’ll will check in on my nurses and see what’s going on anything. After my mom was discharged I had Brushy creek reaching out to us to make up what had happened to her as in home services, prescription, and ambulance services. If you’re thinking about putting your loved one in this facility think twice put them somewhere else. There was an employee there told me she wouldn’t put her pet in this place. Please reconsider this place! The reason I gave it a 2 star it was a clean place and...
Read moreI have NO idea how this place could have ANY good reviews! I don't want to even give 1 Star but that is the minimum I can give to utilize the review feature. IF you are a middle aged to younger person who is simply there for rehab after a hospital stay, or if you are of sound mind and/or can take care of your own needs you will be treated fine because they KNOW that you are watching them and they can't get away with neglecting you. HOWEVER, if you are an elderly person with limited mobility, and/or have dementia, or you are a loved one of an elderly person with limited mobility and dementia, DO NOT GO TO BRUSHY CREEK COTTAGES! The staff will "tell" you or your loved one that they will be "cared for", BUT the moment you or your LO is left alone, that will be it! They will NOT recieve the care they promised, but you'll be charged for it while you or your loved one lay in bed, alone, neglected, hungry, wet, no meds! My mom was there while Covid-19 visitation rules were in place, where family could no longer visit face to face and personally. The staff was in hog heaven knowing that they weren't being watched or monitored and could neglect these patients without having to worry about ever being caught! I'm telling you the God's honest truth! My mom received only 1 day of PT out of 7 days there! She had fallen in the bathroom but was not found immediately, they blamed it on her for NOT using her walker and not calling out for help! She couldn't because they shut her door and took her button to call nurse! If they had been monitoring my mom, that would NOT have happened at all! My mom's health not only began to decline quickly due to lack of care, but she became SO depressed! She was not even given the opportunity to watch TV because she wasn't given the remote to even turn the TV on! She lay in a room for 7 days alone like in solitary confinment in prison. We fought to take her out but they threatened us that if she was removed Against Medical Advisory, Medicare would not pay the bill and we would be personally resposible for it! We found out that was another lie! We were told we had to wait for a social worker to release her which took 3 DAYS! We also were under the impression that they were affiliated with PRISMA HEALTH, but learned by her physucian they are not! Please, DO NOT send your elderly loved one there IF they cannot clearly THINK for themselves OR if they can't physically DO for themselves, you will regret it! Only by the grace of God did my mom even make it...
